I'd like to mount an Osprey on my 1911.

Has anyone had luck with aftermarket "drop-in" 1911 threaded barrels?

(I already posted this question on a 1911 forum and 10 guys saying the same thing:  send it to a shop for a fitted barrel)

I don't need precision, match results.  I just want a barrel that will function so the pistol can run suppressed.

I bought a Stormlake barrel and it required 2 light passes with a file to the barrel hood, took about 10 seconds to complete, barrel locks up tight with zero play.

I bought a Remington barrel from Brownells and it dropped right in a Norinco government clone.

So far I have three hundred rounds through it with no issues

I wanted a "drop in" , looked at threaded bbl with link and bushing. Most cost effective unit as mid - high $200.  Considering i paid $400 for  RIA. I passed, sold the RIA . Ended up with a G21 & LW bbl. Total of $550 with LW bbl purchased .
The RIA is a phenomenal shooter, however the added cost of threaded bbl wasn't worth it IMO

Snatched up a Remington 1911 threaded barrel a couple weeks ago during a Brownell's sale for $74.99. Glad I did.

Did you try it yet? Going to see how it fits my Springfield black stainless here shortly...

ETA: Looks like she's going to the 1911 smith for a fitting.
