I have a S&W M&P9 and want to get my first suppressor for it.

The first issue is getting a threaded barrel for it. There appear to be two different thread pitches offered, 1/2x28 and a metric threading.  Is one better or more common than the other? I'd assume the standard thread is more common.

Which suppressors should I be looking at for a 9mm? I don't want to go crazy expensive with my first, but I don't want to buy something I'd regret either.

You'll generally find US-brand pistols have the standard threads while foreign-brand pistols have the metric.

The metric are less likely to loosen during shooting since the thread on the opposite of most barrel rifling. With Silencerco pistons (for the Octanes and Ospreys), the metric pistons also have an o-ring to help prevent the threads from becoming fouled.

Octane 45 HD.  While you have a 9 right now, who knows you might get a .40 or .45 later and one can to rule them all.  Also a quality .45 can will usually handle 300BO subs as well.

The Revolution with it's ability to to be shortened though is tempting.

I disagree. If you only shoot 9, get a dedicated 9mm can which will perform better. If you buy a .45 host, buy a .45 can down the road. No such thing as too many suppressors.
Ti-rant 9mm for $399

FWIW, I picked up a storm lake threaded M&P barrel for $80 last month

ETA: I've chosen 1/2x28 and hope to stick with it

I'm kind of a Silencerco  fan with owning an Osprey 45 and a Spectre 2, but my form 4 stamp came in about a week ago on a TiRant 9.  I was able to take it out to the range yesterday and I'm very impressed.  Very quiet.

The price made it a super deal too.  I had no use for the rebate and was happy to sell it for $125 to someone who needed it.

I will say that I have a new found respect for the Osprey after using the TiRant side by side on two 9mm hosts.  The Osprey really does a great job allowing you to use stock sights.

This is sage advise!

Avoid unitaskers if at all possible.

Well multitask cans are amazing as being a jack of all trades. Something like a pistol caliber also handling 300 blk its not amazing compared to a 7.62 can. So if the buyer doesn't plan on ever buying a 300 its not an feature the user cares about.  I would vote getting a dedicated can now and if they wish to get a .45 thats a size able investment anyways so why not buy it its own can. Your already talking at least a piston swap if you try and go between a .45 and a 9mm host. So ship the swap and get a can you like for each.

Tirant vs octane I have no first person exp so I can't give advice on that. I did buy an octane 9 after shooting both octane 45 & 9 on 9mm host.

Fuck I have a ti-rant pending and thought the osprey was overrated, borderline dog shit when considering the use of stock glock sights

I've heard that about Glock sights - regretfully that's one manufacturer whose OEM sights are very low profile.  The Osprey works nice on my Sig P226, HK P30 and FN FNP45 stock sights.

Yep.. This is the correct answer.

But for bonus points, I HAD to get the Tirant 9 when it was on sale for $349.

That depends upon the gun and sights.

I looked at the Osprey setup on several guns and wasn't impressed.

What have you found it works well on?

I would stay away from trying to get one can to run on multiple calibers but that's just me.  My biggest regret with a silencer is the sdn6, shoulda just got the m42k since all I shoot through it now is 5.56.  Get a 9mm fan for a 9mm both the tirant and osprey are great.

Tirant is the quietest on the market and is insanely cheap right now. I don't understand anyone who advises something else while they are so cheap.

For the situation this is the best advice in the thread. The tirant is the quietest pistol can I have heard and it has very little back pressure.

Make haste op, they don't make them anymore. I think silencer shop still has them in stock.

I have no sympothy for those who dragged their feet with the cheap TR9/45 deals and now miss out on the DTM promo.  These sales have been going on for the better part of the year.  If you didn't own a 9mm can by mid summer of this year and were in the market, there's really no reason why you should still not at least have something filed...  It's really a no brainer, whith or without the promo.

Still cheap!
But yea, with the AAC rebate, it was stupid not to get it.

I sold my credit for $125...

So $349 - $125 + $270 for Silencer Shop Direct = $494 all in on a Tirant 9?!?!  Then even cheaper for those guys in the dealers states that didn't need a transfer fee.
