There isn't much info on which one you should use the standard or the deep socket. Was the Deep Socket just made for aesthetics or fitting over a larger diameter barrel? The thread depth is listed as the same, so help me out here please.

I ordered the 51T Deep Socket 5/8-24 for my 762-SDN-6 and this CMMG 300 BLK barrel 12.5 inch barrel

is this going to be good to go or should I have gotten the standard one? The last thing I want is a baffle strike over $99.

Thanks guys,
John

I just went through this myself. The deep socket is fine as long as the thin ring on the rear of the mount is not indexing on the shoulder of the barrel. With the deep socket the mount actually goes over the barrel some. I use these mounts on my colt hbar and commando uppers on my ar's.

For my bolt action 300 whisper with a heavy barrel I used the standard socket. This mount has more meat on the ring on the back of the mount so this ring can index against the shoulder. I could not find a standard mount so I had to buy the breakout comp mount which is a standard socket.

Here is a picture that aac sent me. I hope this helps. Pm me with any questions. I realized I had been using the wrong mount for several years. I screwed it on one day and noticed that the deep socket mount did not engage many threads when seated. I emailed aac and they got me on the right path.

Ok I should be good to go, the barrel is .750 and the Blackout will be free to tighten down until the inside indexes on the muzzle face.

Do you think the best way to check to see if the deep socket is contacting all the threads, is to apply a little anti-seize to the threads inside the FH, and check how far down the flash hider pushes the anti seize on the barrel threads?
