Sorry if this has been asked before, but what ATF forms do I exactly need to submit to build my own suppressor? I don't want to send in the wrong forms and find out I sent in the wrong forms or not enough.
From my research, I need 2 copies of ATF Form 1 (5320.1) and 2 copies of ATF Form 5330.20. |

Along with two sets of fingerprint cards and two passport style pictures attached to the Form 1s signed off by the CLEO. The forms must be originals printed double sided in blue or black ink... ETA: It's also wise to include a letter stating that these are being submitted for the purpose of making a suppressor/silencer...

Quoted: Or if you have a trust a copy of the trust, I just got 2 approved in 29 days and 31 days. I used my trust, a letter of compliance, and my drawings. Very easy online. Way less than paper file of the three I bought and still waiting on. |

I knew about the Trust route, but that would require me to lawyer up. I'm not in a hurry for the paperwork to be processed, it will give me time to do more research on baffle design, materials, and buying the raw stock for the build.
I can get Ti tubing from work, but will need to order SS for k baffles and end caps. |

You didn't need to provide drawings. In fact I would never do that, but that's just me... Quoted:

Pretty sure it's just one copy of the 5330.20. Ok, I'll check into it. It's just one original 5330.20 needed not two. I know as I just received an approved Form 1 for my SBR and included but one. It's never been two.....ever. |

Got mine back today submitted 9/22 and approved on 10/28 and that included a "pending research" phase of 2 days for the model name "PEW PEW 22" . if you are in a rush the trust route and e-filing is the easiest and quickest route by a long shot. I set up the trust through silencershop (some here will advise against this and recommend a local attorney) but i set it up within 30 minutes then filled out the form 1 using the VISUAL GUIDE in the general class 3 section. i gave no additional letter for why i was building it, i just said "all lawful purposes".
I was contacted and asked to provide drawings which i was told is not normally a request however i gave a very basic drawing only listing the length (already required) and the diameter and I stated k-baffles were to be used however the size/number/and design is to be determined during manufacture. i figured this would give me the most leeway to screw up my measurements and deviate from my original plan. this was an incredibly easy process compared to going the paper route even though my Sheriff is NFA friendly. if you have any questions i will do my best to tell you how the process went for me, but there are quite a few knowledgeable people on here that can help you out more than me. also with the trust the additional form is not required, just the form1 -Mike |
