I am somewhat of a prepper (there, I said it!) and want to get a suppressor that I will be able to clean and service myself for the long term if the SHTF. Used on my AR15 at 75 yards or less. I know nothing about suppressors and would like to know your opinions on what I should get. It HAS to be user serviceable. Low backpressure, good first round pop, and a good compromise of sound and weight reduction are all pluses.
Thanks, Obie |

No suppressor fits all those.
There are very few user serviceable cans available. Those that are out there tend to be heavier. I know of one that is light and from a major manufacturer that should be announced at SHOT, but no guarantees it will or when it will be actually available. The hunter town Kestrel looks like it fits your needs, but admittedly I know very little about them. As for the arguments for/against takedown center fire cans, while user serviceability is a minor thing, the ability to be easily serviced in the event of a baffle or endcap strike or upgrading the baffles in the future are legitimate reasons to consider a serviceable center fire can. It is a trend (especially for upgrading) that I'm beginning to hope catches on. |

Just concentrate on muzzle devices, if you choose a brake buy 5 extra since most are designed to wear out and not pass on wear to the cans' blast chamber. YHM Titanium is a good place to start, check out silencer shop, they are an ar15.com dealer/industry partner, yes they are in TX but very few shops can beat their prices and their customer service. |
