Saturday I paid for my Octane. Now that I have over a year to figure out what to thread it too, I thought I would ask what people like? Is there a popular platform or one that is quieter? I was originally thinking about putting my Rock Island 1911 to good use, but that is an expensive proposition. Second thought was the M&P 45 Spec ops, but that was a limited run. So, I come to you all for advise. And to be honest, the only thing I have shot suppressed was a 308 bolt gun when I bought my Specwar.

Thanks

Sean

I recommend the HK USP45 Tactical, the HK45 Tactical or the HK45 Compact Tactical. (In that order)
Or, you could just settle for a OEM factory threaded barrel on a Glock 21.

Whatever platform you are most comfortable and familiar with! Just buy a good aftermarket threaded barrel. There are many good barrel makers out right now.

For .45 hosts, I have a USP Tactical, FNX-45 Tactical and a Kimber with a Storm Lake barrel.

Of the three, I enjoy shooting the USP Tactical the most. The only thing I changed was to swap out the front sight with a tritium one - black front and rear sights just don't work well for me.

I was in the same position I couldn't figure out which 45 host to buy for the two octane 45's I purchased. So I just bought 3 and I figure whichever one I don't like I could just sell later (that's what I told myself to justify purchasing 4 guns anyway).
#1 HK 45 tac (black and tan)
#2 S&W M&P 45 with factory threaded barrel (sorry the pic is a 9 but you get the idea)
#3 FNX 45 tac
From my very limited experience shooting these guns unsuppressed, so far I'm leaning towards the HK 45 Keep in mind i have only shot them unsupressed at this point. I have at least 2 more months wait on my first Octane 45.

Thank guys!

You all have expensive taste! Or maybe I hander looked at HK prices in a while. Glock may win on price alone. Does glock sell the barrel in a gun or only as an add on?

Glock threaded barrels - good source is lone wolf distributors

Storm laKe has a variety of other platforms covered.

Some factory barrels are also availed from most major manufacturers web pages too !

Good luck ,

My list would be if I were looking for a 45 host
1. Glock 21
2. FNX 45 - regular model not much more than a Glock    Then add a threaded barrel
3. XDM 45

I picked up the threaded M&P 45 for $500 at a local gun store with two barrels.
I think the trick is to keep an eye open while you're in your waiting period for your silencer and keep a little cash in your truck just for when you find the right deal.
If you're trying to go low budget then the M&P is what I would look for.

Buy a Storm Lake barrel kit for your RI 1911, you'll love it. If you have to buy another gun, I love my G21 suppressed.

Are you guys fitting the Stormlake barrels to your 1911's or is "drop-in"  sufficient for reliable function?

I built a SBR chambered in 45acp for my Octane.  DI upper from Ron Williams @ rmw extreme.  No recoil, 7.5" barrel...she should be nice and quiet.

Also had Springfield fit a barrel to my TRP...Need to send them my XD 45 compact.

Very versatile can...and I am looking over my trust once more before I make the Octane 45 purchase.  I will be using it on my HK45C with threaded barrel, HK USP40 with threaded barrel, and AR, sbr 300blk using subsonic rounds.
So, it doesn't even have to be a 45 pistol if you are wondering, that way it opens up more choices to consider when looking for a host.
