| Is there such a thing as a do all suppressor? |
|
No, once you get one you want one in every caliber just like rifles and pistols. A .308 can will work on smaller calibers but will not give you the optimal sound reduction.
Most centerfire suppressors are not user serviceable and are not advised on .22 rimfire. Pistol and rifle suppressors are for the most part not interchangeable even if the rifle caliber will fit through the baffles on the pistol suppressor. Although a .22 suppressor works on both rifles and pistols it is the exception. Most people will get a .308, .22, .45, and 9mm |

Is there such a thing as a do all suppressor? Sure, if you believe in one do all rifle, or one do all pistol But if your on this site, I'd venture you have multiple different setup AR's and pistols. Point is different platforms need different suppressors. I suppose if a company built a user serviceable, magnum rifle rated can with a bore diameter of .46, it'd work for just about anything on the market. The problem is it would be such a compromise it would do nothing really well, just everything adequately. That, and it'd be heavy as hell I'm sure. If such a behemoth existed, I would still prefer suppressors that served a specific role very well instead of multiple roles only marginally. |
| With a quality .30 cal rifle suppressor, .45 cal pistol suppressor, and .22lr suppressor, you can quiet down a whole lot of firearms. Don't let people discourage you from subcaliber-ing. A good .30 cal can will work great on 5.56 rifles. I've shot my SDN6 alongside a SPR-M4 (one of the quietest 5.56 cans out there) and my uncalibrated ear could only tell slight differences in tonality. Neither are "hearing safe"...even outside...but do reduce sound to a comfortable level without plugs. The larger exit diameter is offset by the fact that you have a larger can volume. Same goes for a quality .45 can. A good can .45 can will sound great when shooting 9mm through it. Plenty do it and it's a good way to start out. Then buy more specific cans down the road as funds allow. |
