I'm in the market for a thread on can.  I was going to wait but the President's BS is forcing my hand.  I'm intending this can to go on a 18' DD SPR(ish) rifle and I doubt I'll use it on anything else.....maybe an MRP barrel.  I already have a SF Mini and I don't think I need the QD capability for this can.  I'm not looking to spend a ton on AAC, SF, KAC, or the regular suggestions.  I need a 5.56 can but I could be talked into a 7.62 can for potential future versatility.

My choices....

1) AAC Ranger 3.  Is this thing even out yet?  I see it listed on some sites but not others (like Sil. Shop, etc)......might be a clue.

2) HA Kestrel.  I haev a .22 Guardian and like it a lot.  Even though they say you don't need to clean larger caliber cans, I like the take down capability of it.

3) Gemtech Trek.  I don't know much about this can.....and I'm not pleased with Gemtech recent decision to stop servicing a can that they marketed that service for.

Any facts or opinions you guys want to share?

Just found a recent thread on another site.  Looks like the Ranger 3 isn't out yet.  I'd prefer not to pay MSRP or a little less to buy a can that might (probably) be eclipsed by a new release.....considering the Ranger 2 has been out for a while.  Then again, it could turn into AAC's vaporware.  Unless I'm missing a reason to pick up a R2 can...

Dont remember retail prices on the Ranger.
Specwar would be my suggestion, or a Saker with the direct thread attachment. Saker gives you the option of QD later if you wanted, while the Specwar is a good amount cheaper. Specwar is $550 at silencershop, including your choice of brake/FH.

Of your 3 options listed, I think the Gemtech Trek is the best choice. Very light, and compact, but the sound suppression is excellent. And as you discovered, the Ranger 3 hasn't been released yet and has no ETA.

There are a couple QD cans you can get for around $50-$200 more than the Trek. But if you want to stick with a thread on 5.56mm can, the Trek is my first recommendation.

I'm going to go with the HA can.  My guy has it in stock at a very good price.  Reviews online are overall positive given realistic expectations.  I want to get the F4 ball rolling.  I had to F3 my last and it took almost 2 months to complete.   I don't feel like doing it again.  Given the intended purpose for the Kestrel, I'm comfortable with the decision.
