Alright guys. I'm looking for a can that I can use for .223/5.56 and .22 on an AR15 with barrel lengths ranging from 7.5" to 16". I am in the process of SBR'ing a 7.5" pistol so since that sucker is so loud I want a can to go with it. It needs to be
quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection painlessly. Since I'm paying for 2 tax stamps and a can I'd like to keep it around $600 for the can but still get good quality and not be wasting my money. I like the AAC M4-2000 but with the mount it's around $1000. I've asked around and people say that the Yankee Hill cans are good but I don't know which one and which mount. I've also heard about the Kestrel. Is it any good? Or are there any cans out there that fit what I'm looking for. I want to upgrade later so getting a cheaper can now is Ok as long as it works well. |

First, I'd advise using hearing protection, as would the manufacturers. That said, I also have to advise that you get a dedicated suppressor for the .22 as they get very dirty. If that is not an option for you, then I'd get a 5.56 can that you can disassemble for cleaning.
I can't make competent suggestions to you on suppressor until I know what your intended use for the rifle is. Hope that helps |

^ how so? If I had extra money I would love to add one to my collection. I think he just means that cans in general don't hold their value well, so they aren't really much of an investment. It's basically just a fun toy, that depreciates significantly once you buy it, kind of like a sports car. But they are pretty much a lifetime purchase. If you buy one, it's pretty much not worth selling it down the road. |

So your telling me I'm wasting my money if I use a can on my 7.5". I won't quiet it much, companies won't warranty it, and it will wear out very fast from the large muzzle blast. So stick to using it on longer barrels.
That's still didn't help me out much on deciding which can to get that would be in my price range which aren't junk. |

I would go with a dedicated .22 like a Silencerco SS Sparrow which I have or a SWR Spectre II which I have in jail at the BATFE. For 7.62 or 5.56 I would go with the SWR Specwar 762, I purchased one and it is also in jail at the BATFE. You can get the SWR Specwar 762 at Silencershop for around $720 plus free shipping. I know you only want one silencer but you will not stop at just one |
| For yer parameters the Huntertown Arms Krestel 556 is probably yer best bet. It fits yer budget, it's user serviceable so you can run 22lr through it, and they don't have any barrel length restrictions. As for suppressing a 7.5" fire breather, yes it's gonna cut down a TON on noise and concussion. That said, it will not be hearing safe. Now, depending on yer level of hearing ability, yer ears may not ring after only a few shots, but know that damage to your hearing will eventually occur under sustained use. |
| I don't think anyone is trying to be a dick, but your parameters are a little tough. You want a user serviceable can, that is hearing safe, will be waranteed on a 7.5" barrel, and for only $600. That can does not exist. There are options out there if you can live without some of your requirements. If you are going to shoot .22 through the can, you will need it to be user serviceable. This alone eliminates most of the offerings. Of those left, none are considered top contenders. Even the top contenders will harm your ears if you shoot without hearing protection on a regular basis. Also, only a few companies actually warranty their cans on 7.5" barrels. These cans are usually made of very expensive/exotic metal alloys. Like someone stated above, your best best is to get a HTA 5.56 can (not that quiet) or save up a little more and get a nicer 5.56 can and also a .22 can. I know this isn't what you wanted to be told, but it's the truth. Good luck! |

Look OP- If you want your silencer to spend half of it's life at the manufacturer getting serviced then by all means, run it on a 7.5" gun. Just please don't trash talk on the manufacturer when you do pop the can or erode the blast baffle in less than 1000 rounds. A 5.56 run that short is absolutely brutal. These silencers are not made of unicorn horns soaked in the Easter Bunny's tears. They are a steel tube with baffles inside. They have limitations just like any other firearm accessory. |

Lol 7.5" AR, I feel bad for anyone that got suckered into one of those. ESP now that 8" 300blk is a available.
1. Dump the 7.5". 11.5" in 556 or 8"+ 300blk, no shorter than those IMO, the 556 was designed for 20" barrels and the 300 blk from 8-16", if you push too far outside those design constraints you are wasting time and money. 2. Don't consider double use for 556 and 22lr, it's dumb. Consider a quality 22lr can like the SparrowSS or Specter2, 3. Get a quality 30cal can with a good mounting system (surefire socom, SWR SpecWar, Silencerco saker when they release a 30cal, AAC if they ever update their mount to something newer than the current 51T) skip everything else. The mount makes the can. 4. Don't do ANYTHING cheap with NFA, you will eventually regret it |

Quoted: I believe Ops Inc warranties their cans down to 7.5", I could be way wrong though. They do. I have a 16th model. It is a pain the ass to mount on on that short of a barrel though. In addition, its warranted but that might mean sending the can back to get fixed every year. Not worth it to me. I run my 16th on a 11.5 and am confident it will last me years to come. As for the investment part, that is true. While I am slightly more fortunate as I have bought all of my cans used so they don't lose much value. But you still lose $200 every time. By investment I mean that it is something that you wont want to bother selling down the road so it is worth doing it correctly in the first place. |
