| I was told by a dealer not to shoot HPs through a supressor. Is it a bad idea? will it mess up a ti-rant if you do? |
|
The issue with hollow point ammunition is strictly regarding suppressors that use the older wipes, which will cause the bullet to expand. For modern suppressors without wipes, hollowpoint or soft point ammo is fine.
Cast lead is not recommended simplt because some lead will vaporize due to friction and will condense in the relatively cool environment. Birdshot or ratshot cartridges for centerfire pistols or rimfire should never be used in a suppressor. The pattern starts spreading long before the shot clears the suppressor, and well over half the shot will remain in the suppressor. Philip H. Dater, Gemtech |

Also use bird shot and the sound of the slide racking on your shotgun will make any criminal crap his pants. also 223/556 is a super week round, 308 is the best no matter what. Also don't carry with a round in the chamber thats just bad practice. EXCEPT in 1911s. You can safely carry those with a round in the chamber if the hammer is down... |

now days it never surprises me on some of the stupid shit I hear in gun shops I hear that. And I would find another dealer if I was the OP. I won't support idiots like that. If you run a business or are a salesman, know your product or find another line of work.

| I guess in THEORY you could have an issue if you had a very fast twist rifle and were shooting very light varmint-type hollowpoints with thin jackets. I've never had it happen to me, but I've heard of such things spinning themselves apart as soon as they leave the barrel. |

And only if you did see a nice piece of tail that day and did not have an impure thought, bad thought then no carry with suppressor for you |
