I have a Lone Wolf stainless threaded barrel on my G17, and the thread protector seems to shoot loose after a few rounds. I tried teflon tape, but no success. I also tried a few drops of blue loctite, but that loosened up. Is there something that I can put on there to keep it from shooting loose, short of welding it on? It will probably be a year or two before I get a can, but I'd like to keep it in there just so I'm not limited to only jacketed bullets. Thanks.

Go to your local hardware store and find a viton oring that fits into the thread protector without overlapping the opening in the barrel. Once you get the right size, you can tighten the protector down against the oring and it will prevent it from backing off. If you take it on and off a lot, get several orings, They will wear out with a lot of use.

Viton is heat resistant.

Would a little teflon tape also work?

I too have a couple of Lonewolf threaded barrels for my 17's.  I have found a variant of Teflon tape does work very well for me, it is yellow in color and noticeably thicker than the white kind.  I found it at Home Depot for $2-$3 for the roll.  I stretch it a bit and put about 3 to 4 layers of it around the threads and then tighten the protector on over it.  It should be fairly difficult to thread the protector on, and the tape may begin to bunch up a bit but that's okay.  I don't remove the protector from one of my 17's as it rarely gets shot suppressed and after maybe 4,000 rounds through it I haven't had any issues with it loosening up yet.  I know you said that the tape hasn't worked for you, but this thicker stuff may be worth a try at $3.

It gets run pretty hard, in and out of the holster, rapid fire, etc...

Another possibility depending on what you do with the gun is just running it without a thread protector.  For a concealed carry gun it really isn't a necessity.  Threads are tougher than people give them credit for.  I carried mine for almost a year without a thread protector and didn't have any damage to the threads at all.  That said, insurance is always nice.
