I just bought a SS Sparrow, my first can. Now that I've got some time to kill, I want to make sure my hosts are GTG. The Sparrow will go on the following:
GSG 1911 SW M&P 15-22 GSG-5 pistol FN 5.7 Handgun Walther P22 Aside from buying the various adapters and a barrel spacer for the M&P15-22, what else do I need to do? I'm concerned about all the barrels being concentric, but do I need to send all of them to ADCO? Is a visual test enough? Is anyone familiar with baffle/endcap strikes using any of these hosts? |

How has the GSG's reliability been for you? Thinking about picking one up for the same can too. Using the silencerco adapter with it? Quoted:
My GSG1911 + Sparrow (sample size=1) was fine without any concentricity checks. Yeah, I've got the adapter - it works great! The reliability is good until the gun gets dirty. Suppressors make it get dirty a lot quicker. I've got about 1,500rds without cleaning through the GSG1911 right now and it won't go through a whole magazine without 5-7 failures. I was trying an experiment to push it but I'm going to clean it soon. It's not fun to shoot anymore it's so unreliable.

My GSG1911 + Sparrow (sample size=1) was fine without any concentricity checks. My experience with the GSG 1911 has been less than stellar. The good news is that it's a cheap .22 trainer and it's very accurate. The bad news is that I think it leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not trying to start a war here, but my experience hasn't been so good. I broke the ambi-safety within a few hours of normal use. I replaced that with a real 1911 unit. My brother broke his guide rod within the first 500 rounds. Mine was still intact, but I installed an aftermarket unit to prevent problems down the road. Another issue I had was that I couldn't maintain my normal firing grip and get the grip safety engaged. I've got large hands (I'm 6'5") and when I rest my thumb on top of the safety I still couldn't reliably get the grip safety engaged. Instead of gripping the gun a different way than I do my SA TRP, I filed some material off the face of the grip safety so that it is no longer functional. This solved that problem. I didn't like the arched MSH either, so I replaced that. It wasn't defective, I just didn't like it or the magazine safety. I also found that it wouldn't reliably feed with 10 rounds in the mags. I have to down load them to 8 or 9 and then they will function. My latest problem is that the slide will not fully cycle if there is any pressure against it. This means I have to be very careful shooting in a "thumbs forward" type grip that is pretty much standard now. If my thumb rests on the slide at all it won't pick up the next round. I've had a large number of stovepipes and failures to eject as well. I just may need a replacement spring, but I haven't gotten in touch with ATI about it yet. My experience with customer service from ATI wasn't great either. I contacted them about the broken Ambi safety and requested a replacement. I never heard back from them. I got in touch two more times and there had no idea where my replacement part was. I tracked them down at the NRA Convention in Pittsburgh and told them about my problems. One of the reps worked with me to finally get me the replacement parts, but the lack of communication didn't leave me very confident. I have the Gemtech adapter on it now, but since I won't have the can for a few months, I can't say much about it yet. |
