I am looking into buying a suppressor for my ar15 I am mainly looking at an AAC can or perhaps a yankee hiil can but which is better a quick attach or thread on. What are the pros and cons of each thanks.

Thread ons will back off while shooting. I don't recommend them for a Semi. QD is the way to go on an AR.

I went with a YHM Titanium QD 556 for my AR.

My buddy has a YHM SS QD 556 that locks up tight and has been abused for 3 years or so without issue.

I wanted lighter so I went Ti. 20oz vs 12oz.

YHM comes with a mount and the only moving parts are on the mount not the can so if it ever broke, just replace the mount.

I prefer QD for an AR as I feel better about it being less likely to work loose, but that's just me.

I was about to buy an AAC until I read about a good amount of people reporting a loose lock up / wobble even with the 51t mounts and having to file down their mount teeth to get a solid lock up. Google it if you like.

Generally speaking, most people say AAC is better than YHM but I went with what I felt is a lighter can with a better mounting system.

I've been looking hard at the Gemtech Halo.  I think that's the way I'm gonna go here soon.

I have a Halo and really like it.  I've never had it back off.  If anything, it'll get stuck on there and I have to get help to remove it.

I read about every thread I could for about a year trying to decide which can I wanted to buy. I watched just about every video on Youtube listening to what they sounded like and finally I thought I decided to get the AAC M4-2000. My secondary was gonna be the YHM Phantom QD SS.... one day I walked into my LGS and he was on the phone. I've known him for about 10 years and we've become pretty good friends... he gets off the phone and tells me that he was just talking to YHM and the "new" Titanium suppressors that he had ordered at shot Show were gonna be there the following week.

I said, "yeah, I've been researching that Phantom and it seems like a pretty devent can for the money." He says, "I got one right here, ya wanna look at it?"

He pulled a box off the shelf behind him and threw a Phantom 556 QD on the counter... then he said "You want it?"

Me: "How Much?"

Him: "$450"

Me: "Yeah I'll take it...."

I had the cash in my pocket and threw it on the counter... It's not the SS, but it is the QD. I've put about 6-700 rounds through it and I like it alot. What I love more is that I didn't have to save up another $500 and wait for the AAC. If I could do it over again I would get the Phantom 308 QD first though... but I am completely satisfied otherwise.

It's already been mentioned that you should stick with the QD suppressors for your AR because the thread on suppressors can loosen up or back off... although there are several members on this forum that swear they have screw on cans that have never backed off on them...

QD is just like the name states, you can quickly take it on and off and switch it from rifle to rifle without any tools or anything. you don't have to take on and off a flash hider to try it out.

but if you know you're only going to put it on one or two rifles, i see nothing wrong w/ a thread on can.  if i had one rifle that was dedicated to one suppressor, i would have no issues getting something like a Cyclone on an AAC SD.  thread on cans, typically perform better than the QD cans.

I have a SS screw-on YHM that I got for two reasons. I have a bunch of different hosts and didn't want to buy that many mounts and I got a deal on it new for $400 shipped.

I have not shot it a bunch but it has seen some use, I am happy with it for what I paid for it and I have had no problem with it backing off but check it every mag or two to be safe and no issues.

I run it on my SPS Tactical, several ARs to include one with a slide fire stock, some light .22 stuff and no problems or complaints,

The AAC cans are likely to wobble on the mount.  It is a crap shoot whether you get a mount that locks up tight or not.  I suggest Surefire if you must have a QD can; the price is higher but you get what you pay for.

I have a thread on phantom on my M16 (LMT 10.5") and have never had it come loose. I use copper anti seize on the threads and I've never had it come loose, and I get it HOT with full auto mag dumps......
