I just picked up my Halo yesterday.  I have a couple of question about it:

First, is the collar supposed to be loose around the A2 flash hider until the can gets screwed into it?  I slipped the collar over the hider and it wont lock anywhere until the can is screwed on.  Normal I hope, I just want to make sure.

Second, there is about 2 thread lines still showing after the can is tightened all the way.  I've looked at a few pictures on the web, but nothing is real clear.  I'll see if I can post a pic of mine.

Thanks!

My class 3 dealer installed the peel washers on both of my AR's.  The suppressor fits the same on both of them.  Looking down the bores on both, things appear to be lined up, but ya never know.

Yes to both questions. The number of threads remaining visible is normal and will vary with the overall length of the flash hider.

Looking down the bore from the breech is a good test.  I had a bent or badly machined FH on one of mine.

Thanks!  Im hoping to shoot it today or tomorrow.   I can't wait!

Until you forget to take it off after the gun cools down

So their Halo QD mount expands and contracts to the point of needing channel locks to get off once it cools, is that what I am understanding?

Other than remembering to loosen while still warm/hot, are there any other "Issues" with Halo's?

Can't this be an issue with ANY can that say has a butt load of rounds put through it and warms up a bit?

I think he meant it as in don't grab a hot can and melt yourself to it.

Well, I got to use it tonight.  I only put about 50 rounds thru it suppressed,  but im pretty happy.  The mount really locks down once you fire it.  My point of impact had no change whatsoever.   But, I was only shooting from 35 yds or so.  Sound wise, id say its very similar to a 22 mag.  Hearing protection isn't a huge deal; a nice set of the foam ones would be ideal.  And yes, that sucker gets hot!  It only loosened up one time.  Even then, it wasn't too bad.

Overall im happy with my purchase.

Thanks for all the help!

Nope... the carbon build up turns into superglue. I have to soak it in Hoppes overnight.

Well that explains why it was hard to take off a few times then.

Yup!

I don't regret getting mine, but i will be moving to a QD mount system and suppressor. I'll keep the HALO around for my other ARs, and friend's ARs.

I don't have a problem with the can coming loose but mine would get tight. I cleaned the threads on both the adapter and can before degreasing them. I then put Militech on the threads and shot it until hot. The threads did not stick as bad even after the Militech was gone. So far this has worked fairly well for me. YMMV.

Thanks for the info.  Maybe ill start adding a bit of CLP to the threads when I put it on.

I carry a set of leather gloves so I can loosen the can/mount as soon as I am done shooting.  It makes it a whole lot easier to get off.
