I am new to suppressors and trying to research. I noticed lots of people talking about how some OEM AR barrels aren't all that great for putting a mount/suppressor on due to loose tolerances.
I have a Rock River Arms upper/barrel and was wondering if their OEM threads would be GTG for putting a mount/suppressor.??? I don't want to have a baffle or end cap bullet strike! |
| when you get a can put it on and pop the upper off look down the barrel can you see all the way through without seeing the baffles in the path of the bore? run a wooden dowel down the bore and see if it makes contact. It's always a good idea to double check your barrel before you shoot with a can on it, You can never tell with factory threads until you check them yourself. |

Most of the quality name-brand barrels are going to be good to go from the factory. RRA is one of the companies that you shouldn't have to worry about.
The problems with threads not being concentric to the bore tends to show up on lower end brands, like CMMG and Model 1 barrels. |

I was hoping to avoid having to buy a new barrel or re-thread the one I have. |
| CMMG is a lower end brand now? LOL! I remember a few years ago when they were the absolute shit. Everybody wanted CMMG and Colt, all others were shit. CMMG was doing 1:7 barrels parked under the FSB before anybody else on the market besides Colt so everybody had to have CMMG. Now they are considered low end. Funny stuff. |

I've seen several posts from the ADCO guys on here that show various issues with the threading on CMMG barrels. They're the only brand I've seen ADCO call out publicly for consistent problems with their barrel threads. |

Just do what I do. Buy Noveske barrels and end all debate on if you have purchased the best barrel money can buy. All my AR's right now have either RRA or Noveske barrels. The rifles I shoot suppressed all have Noveske, mostly because I prefer the switchblock which works flawlessly. On the CMMG thing. I just think it's funny how if you are around here long enough you see the flavor of the day come and go. I owned a 10.3" CMMG barrel and ran a Gemtech HALO on it with no issues. I would say the vast majority of the barrels they sell are just fine in every way. When I bought mine, years ago, I asked them to check the threads because I would be using a can. They did, and all was good. And last, I think all RRA barrels are 1:9 twist. That was considered taboo here 2 years ago especially if you wanted to use a silencer on a short rifle. Bullet stabilization and all that. You want to run 75gr OTM? Might have stabilization problems in a 1:9 that can cause baffle/end cap strikes. I won't touch a barrel now for an AR that isn't 1:7 or 1:8(most stainless barrels) I'm shooting 55gr or heavier, I see no reason at all for a 1:9 barrel. Although I do have a couple that have these, I won't be buying anymore in the future. |
