| Kinda new to suppressors. I do have a suppressed .22 pistol and am in the market for a .308 can now (may want to get one for .223 in the future) Im plannng on using it on my .308 DPMS.. I may want to use it on a bolt gun as well in the future. Im starting my "research" here. Was wondering if the hive could make some suggestions.. Thanks |

Many say avoid YHM cans. When I was into the search I considered the YHM SS 762 and the AAC 762-SD QD. I went with the AAC for the QD mount seemed superior to the YHM. If I was to do it again I would pick the threaded YHM SS Phantom. According to the sales rep the YHM is rated for alot of calibers over .308. Shooting anything including .308 from a short barrel doesn't seem promising with the AAC.
This is just my opinion. Someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly. |

A threaded can is the way to go if you want a tad better accuracy and less parts to deal with. I think QD attachments are better suited for rock n roll fun unless the QD has no course threads.
Check out Shark or other threaded take apart cans if you want to be able to clean it. Remember customer service needs to be considered just in case you need repair service later. |

I use an AAC 762SD on my auto-loaders and my precision guns. Not sure I buy that there's a huge difference in performance between direct thread on and QD mounts. I get the same groups with a 762SD as I do with a Cyclone.
That said, I'd go with the 762SD. You can use it on a 5.56 and you'll love it on .308. |

Not sure I buy that there's a huge difference in performance between direct thread on and QD mounts. I'm with you RTS. There is absolutely, positively no truth to the rumor that (generally speaking) a "thread on" can is inherently more "accurate" than a "QD" can. "Accurate" is a bit generic - are we referring to POI shit? How tight your groups are? Both?? The new M24E1 that Remington is fielding with the military uses AAC's new 300-SD, QD .300WM can. ARTICLE LINK KAC's legendary M110 SASS use a KAC QD can. Both of these systems have won gov. contracts and are "accurate" as all get out. Bryon |

Use them on 223, 308 and everything in between. My last once cam from Major-Malfunction actually. Couldn't be happier with their service/prices either. |

wait.. so you can shoot 5.56 through a .308 can??? Is it still as quiet as a can thats made for 5.56 only?? What about 22lr through a .308 can? whats that like? Yes. Most manufacturers of QD .30 cans make mounts in different thread pitches. This allows you to buy a mount for your .223 caliber guns that will allow you to use the .30 suppressor on it. Many people prefer 30 caliber cans on .223 because you get less blow back and the sound difference between the two is not great. .223 cans are generally smaller and lighter than .30 caliber cans though which is a big deal to a lot of people. Most people do not recommend shooting 22 LR through centerfire cans because you cannot take them apart and clean them. I highly recommend getting a dedicated 22 LR can. The new stainless steel sparrow from silencerco is high on my list here! I currently own an AAC 762SD which I use on my .308 rifles and my AR rifles. I went with the AAC because it was significantly lighter than the YHM versions. This is especially noticable on the AR rifles that I do not shoot with a bipod/rest like a bolt gun. I'd recommend either the 762SD or the new 762SDN with the 51 tooth mounting system. I have the 18T mounting system and I have problems with it backing off my mounts on my semi auto guns. I'm really considering buying the new 762SDN to use with on my upcoming SBR build and for use on all my other semi auto guns. It has the better mounting system and it has all inconel baffles thereby making it more durable. I have no experience with YHM products. I can tell you I have heard nothing but great things about their customer service and the people that have their cans seem to like them. People complain about AAC, but I will say they repaired a baffle strike in my 762SD free of charge even though it was not their fault. I have been very impressed by their customer service thus far. I highly recommend pulling the trigger on a can. I'd also recommend getting a 22 LR can at the same time if not before you get a centerfire rifle can. I shoot my 22 can 10x more than I shoot my centerfire cans. They are so much fun words cannot even describe it! |

I probly don't have more knowledge, but I do have a couple YHM cans. I've got the 556 and the 762; both are the QD models. I did that so I could run the 762 on all my 556 rifles also. I like the YHM stuff; for the price they are hard to beat. They're SUPER tough, sound fine, and don't cost an arm and a leg. I painted both of mine in my own camo job to match the rifles they usually live on. I looked at lots of other models of cans, but I wanted both 556 and 762 and wanted them to work on the same mounts, so that kinda limited the options a little bit. There were other choices that would have worked, but these were just too good of a deal so I bought them. I don't really have any regrets other than the QD flashider mounts kinda look dumb on a bolt gun... I have a buddy who bought an AAC SPR/M4. We shoot together regularly and neither one of us can tell much of a difference in the sound other than the tone is different. He's kinda wondered a few times why he spent 3x the cost on his... I'm not saying his sucks at all, just that to our ears there's really not that much difference. I'm sure Bookhound or GreenO or somebody will come in here with some actual test data that might be helpful though. pics are always good, eh: 762 on 18" Savage 10fcp 308 http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i13/benjiotto/G%20n%20A/IMG_3921.jpg 556 on 20" 556 AR http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i13/benjiotto/G%20n%20A/photo-21.jpg Great photos! |

It's not as efficient, but it's plenty quiet. Get the YHM .308 with the QD mount and get a .223 mount for your AR15. The .308 can will fit on the .223 mount, but not vice versa. I have both, but if you can only get one, get the .308 |
