I just pulled my thread-mounting AAC Ranger off for cleaning and noticed (hooray) baffle strike damage on the last couple baffles and exit aperture.  I've had the can for about 5 years and haven't had a problem with it on 3 different rifles, so I don't know if it was just loose, or I got a bad round, or what––-my point being that it wasn't AAC's fault.

Questions:

How much will this affect accuracy?  How much will it affect suppression?

Also, anyone know if will AAC repair the can (at my expense, obviously?)

I'd guess AAC would repair it for a small nominal fee.  Thats a bummer, sorry to hear that.  I'm sure AAC will take care of it as they use to take apart cans regularily even if it wasnt their's.

A long as it isn't very large. Gives it character, leave it and enjoy!

Sorry to hear you got a baffle strike, those really mess up a suppressors day. Of course if it's just a slight baffle strike from one bad round, then it's probably not a big deal and keep shooting it. But if it's bad, like more than just a slightly en-longed hole on the end cap, then i would get it fixed. If you decide not to get it fixed i would check your barrels and make sure they are lined up correctly with the suppressor. And since it is a thread on suppressor make sure it doesn't unscrew itself during firing which can lead to baffle strikes. But if it's bad I would just contact AAC and I'm sure they will fix ya up.

Suppression?  Not much if any.  Likely you won't be able to tell.

Accuracy?  You need to go test this for yourself.  Some end cap strikes won't change anything at all.

As already recommended, if you want it repaired just call AAC and talk to Mike Mers.  Their service is great.

If you didn't notice a difference before you removed the can then it can't be that bad right? You said you removed the can for cleaning, not because your poi changed or it was loader right? Just asking.

Yep, just took it off for cleaning, I hadn't noticed any difference in performance.  But that was on a 12.5" upper with an Aimpoint at 25-100 yards; I'd like to run the can on my new Noveske SPR upper with a 10x Mark 4 and I'm concerned about accuracy at longer ranges.

Seems like giving AAC a call is the best bet.  Thanks, everyone, for the advice!
