I am waiting on my 1st NFA item to get approved which is a gemtech multimount I am mounting it on a spike's tactical 9mm AR and ordered the LID mount. I am thinking of turning it into an 5" or 7.5" SBR and was wondering what the big difference was between the LID and the 3-LUG adapters.......other than the 3-LUG is quick detach. There is double the cost between the two and i was wondering if you guys had any pics of these adapters or with these adapters on your guns so i could see what they look like. Thanks in advance!
GSPBirdDog Note- I might have bashed gemtech's website but thier customer service and products are kick ass!!! |

I am pretty sure you only need the LID mount for pistols, since it acts as a booster. I am not sure if using the LID on an AR is a no-no or not, so hopefully someone else will chime in. For thread mounting to the AR you would only need the 1/2-28 thread mount which is only $50. I am not familiar with the 3-lug mounts, and went with the thread mount soley based on the cost of the mounts.

If your barrel threads are 1/2-28, Gemtech has a short and a long thread adapter for the Multimount (in addition to the LID which you don't want on an AR). The long one adds about an inch to the overall length.
Be sure about your barrel threads - mine (not Spike's) are 1/2-36, and Gemtech only makes the short threaded mount in that size. I don't know much about the 3-lug adapters, I didn't need quick attach so I went with the threaded mount. |
