I am looking at picking up a suppressor in the next 12 months.  I own a MSAR STG 556, and a AR 15 with a 14.5 inch barrell (with a welded on hider).

I need something that can be used on both rifles ( I also have a Spike Tactical .22 upper but I am not real worried about suppressing that).  There is no need to cover larger ammo.

I believe I need to get either a new flash hider or an adapter for the AR (and the MSAR is already threaded)

What brands/models should I be looking for?

No offense but did you try the search function?  There are a million threads about this.  Just search for 223 or 556 cans or suppressors.

If you don't find your answers come back with more specificity.

If you're wanting to go with a QD can, you're going to need to replace the welded flash hider on your AR with the correct QD mount for whatever suppressor you go with. Also, you need to be able to find a QD mount that will fit the 13mm threads on your STG. They are not the standard 1/2x28 that most .223 barrels are threaded. As far as suppressors, check the major manufacturers such as AAC, Yankee Hill, etc. and see who offers a mount for all the rifles you own. Another way to go would be to purchase a thread-on can, and buy an adapter for your STG from www.ratworx.com that will convert your 13mm to 1/2x28 threads. No good on the AR though, unless you wanna go the SBR route.

I don't know much about STGs, but YHM makes their QD flash hiders in a 13mmX1 left hand thread as well as 1/2"x28

Surefire and AAC both make muzzle devices that will fit the STG's 13X1 LH threads.

Both would be excellent choices for suppressors too.

I will be using an AWC Raider with a Ratworx 13x1 LH to 1/2x28 RH adapter.  I say "I wil be useing" because I am still waiting on my tax stamp.  That said here are the links to RatWorx and AWC.  Pics of the completed rifle below.

Gemtech also makes a M13x1-LH flash-hider/mont for our G5. I assume the STG is a variant of the AUG, and as such, it will be louder suppressed than a DI system with a similar barrel length. This is because the gas piston system vents some gas (and sound) into the atmosphere at the gas port. Although some are better than others, I have yet to find a piston upper system as quiet as the DI system on a comparable barrel length when suppressed.

Thanks for the replies.

I did some research and I think i am going for a Yankee Hill 7.62 QD.  Right now I don't need the larger caliber (I only have 5.56) but if I bigger rifle later I won't have to get a second suppressor.  YH offers a flash hider with the same thread as the MSAR so that is one less piece to buy (I have to replace the hider on the AR anyway).

From what i have seen it is the the quietest model out there, but my goal is to reduce noise, not snipe Ninja so I should be OK.

Also my wife is buying this as a Christmas/B-Day gift so price is bit of an issue.

If it's meant for christmas you need to have stuff taken care of soon, as the wait time can be 3+ months for your form to be approved.

Also, if your wife is buying it, or if you want her to have access to it, you'll need a trust.

Doc,

We sell the YHM 762 SS/QD for $599 (way below the MSRP of  $724) and I've done lots of orders from spouses who were buying the can as a surprise (I can walk her through the process and make it as easy/painless as possible).

Got my Ranger 2 from Bryon, and it was painless. This was my first NFA purchase, but it won't be my last.

Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on what you want. I recommend, though, that you shoot as many cans as possible and do lots of reading on silencerresearch.com.
