I mailed in my paperwork on April 19th looks like the check cleared my account today. Talk about fast! Now comes the fun part... the wait. I am hoping to get my barrels back from Hi-Desertdog this week so I can try them on for size at the gunshop. I feel sorry for my Checkmate suppressor. I bet that it is awful lonely in that safe at the store. SIGH... |

My very first suppressor check was mailed April 5th and check cleared yesterday. This is for a Quest. I found out yesterday
my Form 3 for a YHM Phantom 556 QD finnally came in.I bought the thing March 1st and Form 3 got lost at ATF so resubmtted and my local guy has it.So monday i will be getting the Form 4 ready to mail on my second suppressor. I am aware of the wait as painful as it is.I did a Form 1 for an SBR while back...took 89 days... individual too. I have a Pac Lite uppered Mark 3 waiting, 10/22...A new Tac Sol AR22 and my AR15 10.5 SBR..... |
| Exactly how long does the whole process take? I paid my dealer on 03-26-2010 for a Advanced Armament M4-1000. Plus paid the $200.00 to him for the tax stamp. I have not filled out any paperwork, have not had the local LEO sign off on anything.... Matter of fact have not even received a call from the dealer telling me to come and fill anything out, let alone tell me the silencer is in his hands. The dealer is a VERY reputable seller from my understanding, I am just wondering if this kind of wait is normal?? He told me it could take up to 6 months before I could walk out the door with it. This sound right? I am in Georgia by the way, if that makes any difference. |

You have to wait for a Form 3 from AAC to your dealer to get approved. The Form 3 by itself can be anywhere from 2-9 weeks. That's IF AAC has them on the shelf. If they have to manufacture more, you could be in for a much longer wait. You won't fill out the Form 4 until he has the silencer at his shop. At that point, you would go in and he would fill out the form for you. It's somewhat unusual to pay the dealer for the tax stamp, and there really isn't a reason to do it this far in advance since that doesn't get sent in until the paperwork you fill out gets sent in, but that's between you and the dealer. Once the completed Form 4 gets sent in, it could be anywhere from 2-6 months on average, and it's usually somewhere in the middle of that time period. So, yeah, your wait time is pretty typical, especially for a can that's not in stock. There are lots of people here who would tell you to only buy items in stock, but you just have to be a lot more patient. |
| Appreciate the info... I too thought it was a little funny to pay the tax upfront to him, but he told me he takes care of all the paperwork and sends the packet to the BATFE. He told me I will come down there to his shop, he helps me fill all the paperwork out and then I take it to my local LEO for the signature, bring all the paperwork back to him and he does the rest. This is all new to me because I moved here from Michigan and we cant legally own a silencer there. I guess I did not think that there was such a long wait time involved with this process..... Geesh its like waiting for Christmas... |

Geesh its like waiting for Christmas... My local dealer did not have any of the suppressor's in stock that i wanted.I had surfed arfcom a lot and had read what the poster above told you that if not in stock can take a long time.I also heard that you can find one thats in stock at another Class 3 and buy it from him...he the sends it to your local dealer once the Form 3 gets approved. Thats what i did.My local dealer was not real happy about it but he did do it and charges $100 to do the Form 4 transfer. But it ended up cheaper anyway as the class 3 i bought my suppressors was around $200 cheaper and i did not have the Texas sales tax...other class 3 in Oklahoma. On the Form 4 paperwork...My local dealer fills out the Form 4,also he did the Citizen Form too.. and puts it in an addressed big envelope, I go get my fingerprints and LEO sign off and write my check (so i can check when it gets cashed) I go mail it priority mail with delivery confirmation. The Form 4 when gets approved will come to the local class 3 here and hopefully he will call me asap...He did'nt when my last suppressor came in.I foiund out yesterday he has had it all week...i never got any shipped email from the Oklahoma guy.My first Form 3 transfer of a in stock from Oklahoma took 27 days and the other took 57 as the first Form 3 got lost...ATF had no record of it.The guy fax's in his Form 3's to ATF. Ain't it fun? I guess once we finnally get them it will not seem so bad huh? |
