Got me a Gemtech HVT for my 300 Whisper build.  It came with a Gemtech bi-lock flash suppressor.

I have the standard DPMS AR armorer's wrench.  I noticed that the cutout for the flash suppressor will not fit on the bi-lock.  The "lugs" are in the way.

No hurry as I've yet to buy a crush washer ... but how am I gonna install this thing?  I may need a torque wrench to do the install properly in any instance ....

I have never installed any of the gemtech FH mounts but with AAC they say you should not at any time use a crush washer. The mount should index all the way back to the shoulder of the barrel. Did your mount come with ant instructions?
Also you might find a basic wrench that will fit.

No crush washer, thats a baffle and endcap strike waiting to happen.

If for some reason you did not get the mounting instructions with your suppressor, call up Kel and either he or one of the other folks there will talk you thru the process.

If the BiLock will not seat against the barrel shoulder/face where you think you need a washer, but do not, then the threads are cut wrong.  This happened to me, twice.  I sent my BiLock back and they sent me another with a relief cut that allowed it to seat.

This needs to be checked every time!!!!

Hmm, you guys raise a good point.  The bi-lock seems to fit well against the barrel shoulder so I think I will pass on the crush washer.

The HVT is in my safe deposit box right now; I will have to pull it and see if it came with specific instructions on installing the bi-lock.

I'm gonna put another bi-lock on my STG58 FAL so your help will come in handy on more than one gun!

The instructions say to torque it down to 30 pounds and then use a rod to check alignment, check the paperwork for the proper size rod.  The rod goes from inside the barrel out through the can without touching the sides of the can.

^^ Thanks.  Did you guys buy a torque wrench to install your FSs or did you have a smith do it?

I have a torque wrench but I was just planning on using a strap wrench and just giving it a good crank.

I haven't put mine on yet but I will check to make sure it's tight everytime I take it out to shot it.

I think it just CYA with the 30 pounds, that's how tight the barrel nut is when you install an AR barrel, they just don't want it unscrewing while you are playing with it.

You can use a Dewey cleaning rod for this.  Use masking tape at the leading and trailing ends of the barrel, wrapped around the rod to make it tighter in the barrel.  You can then tell if your can is aligned.  If you can sight down the bore, you should not be able to see the baffles when looking straight through.

Use Rocksett, as stated in the manual.  Loctite will not stand up to the heat.  I confirmed this.

I just screwed mine on and torqued it by hand with the can.  I haven't had any problems.
I do check it now and then though. I like to be able to take it off when I clean the barrel.

Personally I prefer the muzzle device to have the relief cut. I and quite a few other smiths, ecspecially the benchrest guys, agree that it belongs there and not on the barrel. Of course if I have a customer who insists on having it on the barrel I wont argue with him(for very long).
