I am looking at getting a 223 can for an 11.5 and 16 inch AR as well as a 20 inch Remington SPS tactical bolt gun. I am somewhat leary in the ability of a 223 can to really quiet things down so I am not looking to spend a fortune. The cans I'm looking at and MSRP are below:

Gemtech M402 Piranha $525
YHM Stainless Phantom $510
SWR Wolverine $695
AAC M4-1000 $650
AAC Ranger 2 $550

I would prefer to stay on the cheaper side but can be swayed if given a good argument. Please let me know opinions.

TIA

You can't go wrong with AAC or Gemtech

Not many responces yet...keep 'em coming guys. How does the Phantom compare to the M4-100 or the Piranha? Anybody have any of these cans on a similar setup?

try to find people in your HTF that have the gear you're thinking of buying and ask to try it out. I have a Gemtech G5 and like it a lot; the repeatability of alignment is great.

That's a good idea...I'm gonna have to see what I can drum up in the area or see what the local class 3 guy can demo for me.

I chose the M4-02 due to it being the smallest and lightest available in its class, and the fact that I don't need to ever take it off my rifle.  It's a 1.37'' diameter can, the next smallest is 1.5''.  There are several in the same 16 oz class.

The M4-02 also has symmetric baffles which (apparently) improve accuracy at a small cost to decibel reduction.

All I can say is that I enjoy shooting without hearing protection and clanging an 8 inch gong off-hand at 100 yards at rapid fire with relative ease.  These things were not accomplished before the can.

I have the YHM but it is in the .308 cal., it does give up a few dbs. using it on the the smaller hosts though. I know it is not the quietest but my dealer had it, it performs well, and I use it on multiple hosts.

I've got a YHM Phantom... It works great.  HOWEVER, I wish I would have just spent the money and gotten an M42K.
