Hey Guys,
I've got a couple Suppressors coming soon and since I handload the Majority of my ammo, I thought that there might be some useful load data available. I've got a 5.56, 7.62 cans on the way The 5.56 can will be used on an AR, would be nice if it would Clycle the action and be subsonic (is that possible) The 7.62 can will most likely be used on a PTR91,FAL Stg-58 and a M1A, Assuming it can be made to work on all 3 I know they are all different threads. Subsonic and will Cylce the action would be Great, if impossibe so be it. Planning on a .40 cal can in future Jason |

You need to run a stability calculator (available online in excel format) using different factors:
Bullet weight Bullet length Desired velocity Barrel twist rate All of these factors have an effect on bullet stability. The reason is that you really don't want a wobbling unstable bullet to strike the inside of your suppressor and destroy it. To save you some time on the .308 side: 10.0 grains of IMR Trailboss with 150gr round nose bullets (Sierras are nice) will be stable in the more common 1/10, 1/11 and 1/12 twist .308 barrels. .308 subs that cycle a semi auto rifle? Ain't gonna happen without seriously redoing some internals of the gun to only shoot weak subsonic ammo. If you are going to cook your own loads, you need a chronograph. |
