Any opinions on this?  Searched this forum and the internet, and did not find much info.  I did see a video that AAC did with this can where they destroyed it on full auto after 800+ rounds, but nothing else.

I was going to go with the G5 but ended up settling on the AAC M4-2000. It seems it is a much better can.

I own a G5. The whole Gemtech-AAC "which can do I buy" is beat to death all over; my advice is simple: buy the can that your dealer has in stock, right now. I have and like my G5. Other people have and like other cans. YMMV.

I too own a G5 and have no complaints. check out the 5.56 suppressor shootout on Silencer Research. The G5 preforms very well.

again, I'm not sure why this test is interesting. I know the history, but I'm not sure what the interest is.

That's not the AAC vid, that's Bigbore's vid where the can was perfectly fine afterward.  I would be interested in getting a G5 if I wanted a rifle can.

It's a pretty darn good can.

We keep track, obviously, of repairs that come in here at Gemtech, and there's been single-digit quantities that come in per year for repair - almost always results of squib or bad ammo / endcap or baffle strikes, that sort of thing - not the can's fault - and if something does happen, they're easy to repair because of how we construct them. Sound reduction is always on the high side of the industry, and we've tested them as having lower cyclic rate increase than a lot of competing models.

There's lots of G5s in military service here and abroad, and feedback is always very good from our clients.

We generally aren't the darlings of the internet, but I guess that's just my cross to bear.

I've had mine for a few years, like the tone better than the 2000 shot side by side.  If you haven't already, I'd really suggest checking out silencerresearch.com

Another option would be to find some locals with both and ask to shoot them. Most people with toys are eager to share.

OP,

What other silencers are you looking at?

To be honest I havent really been looking at too many, only the AAC and the G5.  A dealer somewhat local to me had the G5 in stock so I went with that. At that time I had only done a little research, and didnt see any negatives on the G5 so I felt ok going ahead.

As for silencerresearch.com, I tried signing up for that website, but have been having problems logging in.

I bought my G-5 after 2 months of serious research.  I prefer the mounting method of the G-5
over all the other offerings.  After silencerresearch put out the testing of .223 cans, I was
reassured once again in my purchase.  You have to pay for proprietary flash hiders with
most of the upper echelon cans, and I think the bi-lock is the best (in my humble opinion).
If you're worried about paying for flash hiders then the halo or omni may be a good choice.
My favorite part of the G-5 bi-lock, is that I have a HVT 7.62.  It fits right onto the G-5 bi-lock
so I can swap cans if I want, or run 2 ar's/.223's at a time without having to swap a hot can.

Edit:  If you're looking for a $$ saver with most of the same features check out the YHM Phantom QD.
