how do you guys go about choosing a can? (qualifications db levels and such) who do you buy from and is there a average price? thanks |
Buy what you want. Decide what matters to you. I personally would look at size (diameter and length), weight, and performance. Depending on the weapon, these considerations will be more or less important. IE: my buddy has an MP5, and it's so light it feels like a BB gun, and it has sights set about 1.75" above the bore. So diameter and weight of his can are not what I would consider to be important. Anything as large as 10"x2" in something made of aluminum weighing less than 26 ounces, should be perfectly fine. |

You need to decide what is most important to you when picking out a can. Some people only want the most quiet. Others want something light weight, or build like a tank to take a lot of abuse. Some people want a certain mounting system (three-lug or other fast-attach, thread mount). Some guys are just brand loyal. Some people put price at the top of their list and I really don't get that. A silencer purchase is a lifetime purchase. Resale of used cans is pretty bad in most cases. What kind of can/caliber are you shopping for? Have you visited any local SOTs? Mark |
