I noticed today that the endcap of my LCW Predator 22lr suppressor had a massive strike... enough to look like the bullet was shot sideways into the inside diameter of the cap.

Oddly enough, I had just emailed Lauer to ask about replacing the internals with a stainless thread adapter instead of the standard aluminum internals.

They replied back letting me know that it was possible, but would take a very long time...

I don't care about the wait, but I'm more concerned with the Strike and the potential outcome of the work.

Do you think Lauer would have any problems replacing the end cap??

Should I expect to pay extra now that I have a strike??

I've only shot this suppressor on 5 different occasions, and have put VERY few rounds through it since 2005.

hello. i have a lauer 22 can also. i live not too far from them, thats why i buy all their products. before you shoot it again, you have to figure out if it was the gun you were using or the silencer. were all your threaded guns done correctly? i have put many thousands of rds through my predator without a problem. i had to replace my threaded end cap because i cross-threaded it one day when i wasnt paying attention. they never charged me for it, even though it was my fault. of course i do spend alot of money there.

you need to talk to greg. he is their gunsmith. they will probably want the barrel of  the gun you were using when it happened so they can verify the threads are good. are the threads nice and tight on the silencer? a silencer just doesnt start getting baffle strikes for no reason. if it hit hard enough, you could have already bent the silencer out of whack. i would send the whole silencer back to them.  kirk

I just got another email from them, (they are QUICK with the emails, even on Saturday!)

I'm sending it back on Monday and will have them look at it while they are doing the stainless thread insert for me.

I'll update this thread with more info as I get it.

Thanks!

I just spoke with Lauer, and I am a VERY happy customer!

I'm having them replace the threads with a stainless insert, and the end cap in stainless as well! The wait should be 30-60 days, but I'm in no rush.

Greg in the NFA dept was very easy to talk to, and had answers for all of my questions.

I'll post pictures when it finally arrives back!

BTW,  Lauer said that they have made changes to the suppressor over the last few years since I purchased mine 4 years ago. (good to know they are updating their products)

From what I've read, the bore on those is .25" meaning a strike doesn't require bad threads.

A .25" bore is just too tight for a production unit.

.264, or .281 are better bore dimensions, but require higher performance baffle systems to achieve equal sound reduction.

You should not have used the Aguila 60 grn SSS ammo without the correct barrel to stabilize it.
