Is my 10.3 in. CMMG Medcon upper to short for

a Gemtech G-5 suppressor? And what level of

sound reduction should I expect?

I use one on my LMT 10.5" upper and it sounds like a loud .22LR.
I love it becuase you can actually shoot it without wearing hearing protection unless you are putting a lot of rounds downrange then I would suggest some plugs anyway for long term hearing damage reasons.

Thanks, I was worried about the 10.3 inch barrel being too short to suppress and about cycling issues. I can handle a loud .22 sound.

Does it have a bayo lug on it?  If so you may have to shave it off for it to work.

yes, it's very close to the flash suppressor. about a 1/4 in.

Another option is to use the HK416 mount.  That allows you to use the suppressor even when there's no clearance behind the muzzle threads.

***Thanks for the assist there, Clarence!

As he stated, Gemtech does make a quickmount that allows for use of the G5 on Mk18s, HK416 10.4" barrels, LMT CQBRs, and the like without any issues of bumping into anything rearward of the threaded barrel area.  This flash hider basically has a built in spacer that still has support from the threaded portion, instead of just using a big washer that wouldn't have enough thread engagement.  Gives a solid mount on the barrel threads and positions the lugs where they won't be interfered with.

Same price as standard quickmounts, or can be specified to come with the G5 suppressor at the time the can is ordered.  I'd snap and post a pic of the normal vs. the MK18 one, but I'm traveling again...

Best,

Kel

ARFCOM INDUSTRY DISCLOSURE:  I really like Monster Java drinks. They keep coming out with new flavors.  I may, indeed, die prematurely, but I seem to get a lot more done at work if I cut out sleeping.
