What about one of these? ~Dg84 Griffin Armament Pound for pound it seems to stack up well against the higher priced competition. Silencer Research .22lr shootout. |

As said above, the Outback is an excellent can. I don't own one but I have shot a couple. I own a pilot which is also an excellent can. If I were going to buy another .22 can, I would get a take-a-part can though. I used to think it was a novelty to be able to take apart a can to clean the lead build up off, but it's really not once you see what .22 does to the inside of any can. It's nasty. It takes thousands of rounds to notice a difference in a sealed can but once you start to notice your sealed can is not quite as quiet as it once was, you will wish you could take it apart. |
Yes there is a hazardous mixture of Peroxide and something else that will eat the crap out of a stainless can, it will just eat an Aluminum can. But it is hazardous waste and needs to be disposed of accordingly. Don't remember what the other ingredient was. |
If you get an all stainless can including the baffles, you can use aggressive cleaners that will remove the lead e.g. mixture of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide). Common soaking solutions (Eds Red, Kroil, Transmission Fluid etc) will not remove the lead. Dave |
7075 aluminum with titanium thread insert |
there is no way to get it out, without packaging it up and sending it back to gemtech. i absolutely LOVE my outback II, but in about a year's worth of ownership, and about 6-7 months of shooting, it NEEDS to go back. it weighs about a pound and it is fairly loud in comparison... granted, it was my first .22 can, so i shot the bejeezus out of it for a few months. now it sits on my bolt-action and gets used very little so as to streach out a little before i finally givce in and send it back. i encourage anyone who is looking for a .22 can, and thinks there is a *chance* the can will see a lot of fire, to find a user serviceable unit. |
i think SS meant stainless steel. not the maker. i think he was referring to the two metals other than aluminum that are used. i also think , maybe, SWR makes a titanium can. gemtach used to make the seahunter, but it is discontinued. hope that helps. |
i have one.. its a great can, cheep, works great and can be easly taken down to clean |
How do you like your Evo 9 I am waiting for mine as I type? |
Ill +1 this. I love my checkmate. Sounds great off my AR with a M261 kit. Next Im gonna try it on a bolt rifle. |
