Ok I know this is probably a tard question.  Just bear with me.

I love in OR,   Alot of my family lives in NV.  I travel to nevada a lot and would like to take the supressor so my older brothers can shoot it.

Here in lies the problem.  I have to travel through the peoples republic of kalifornia to get to nevada.  I carrry my side arm with me usually the whole trip, since we travel urban highways and not through any big cities.  CHP has told me probalby not the best idea, but they understand.  Both the officers that work the highway said the same thing.  I actually cased the gun prior interaction with CHP.

Here is the wuestion.

Can I travel through kalifornia if the can is in a locked case and I have my papers (duh) with me?

yes.  you can travel through "banned" states as long as your final destination is state where they are legal.  keep it locked in the back with your papers.  even though it is legal to transport the can it doesn't mean the local officers will know the law or follow the law.  keep the ATF's phone number handy and obey the speed limits.

First, make sure you have a signed 5320.20. Yeah, I know they are not required for suppressors, but BATFE will issue one if you submit a request, and in a worst-case situation it may save your butt.

Next, keep the suppresssor locked up separately, and obey traffic laws so that there is no reason for Kalif LE to do a search.

Finally, be aware that Kalif LE will probably not give you a pass, even if you have a signed 5320.20. If you allow yourself to get into a position where Kali LE knows you have NFA items, it will probably end up with your paying a lawyer to force BATFE/DOJ to come down on Kali DOJ on the constitutional issue.

So drive carefully and under the speed limit while in Kali's jurisdiction.

Speed limit is 70 so no problems there.   We broke down and that is why I got to talk to them about my sidearm.

Thanks for the info.  I was guessing yes since I live in OR and NV is class 3 friendly also.

I agree with Tony 100%. While technically legal ...  if you get found out, you will have troubles.

NY / MA / RI  would all give you trouble.

Last time I was stopped in RI ...  I was asked, "Do you have any illegal weapons or drugs?"

My answer was, "no sir" ... becasue my suppressor was NOT illegal.
