Hey Class III gang. I need to buy a suppressor that will work on my ARs and that I can put on various .22lr cal rifles and pistols. I like the price of the gemtech halo but don't want to have to put an A2 birdcage on the .22s.
I am a total newb when it comes to these shitz but I have been hooked on quiet shooting since I tried it out last year.

I am also in the military if the hivemind knows anyone that will cater to my small pocketbook. Thanks and I know I have to check out silencertests.

My .02...

A lot of 5.56 silencers are SIGNIFICANTLY larger and heavier than a dedicated .22 can.
1" vs. 1.5" diameter usually and  3 oz. vs. 20 oz (The weight of a P22 is 15.1oz. So you would be putting a 20Oz can on a 15oz pistol.)  This will make it difficult to shoot on a .22 pistol. and you will not be able to see over the can without raised optics.  Most .22 cans are the same size as a bull barrel so stock sights and optics work. It will also affect POI shift on some of the more popular 10/22 aftermarket barrels (Like the aluminum tactical solutions barrels) as the weight will pull the end of the barrel down and again, it will affect open sights.

Plus, you fill up your more expensive 5.56 can with a bunch of crap from the .22lr.

I would recommend a dedicated can for each application in this case.  You can get by, but since you want to shoot the can on a .22 pistol, a dedicated can will serve you better.

If you still want just one can, I'd go thread mount to avoid needing the flash hider on your .22's. AR's and .22's are usually threaded the same (1/2"x28tpi)

Chris, I get what you are sayin. I am gonna be buying a toy when tax returns come. I want this to be a versatile piece for my guns because of turbulant financial times I am anticipating mid '08 due to seperation from the Navy. I have some solid job offers in the electronics field but have to discuss all that with the wife. Needless to say, my fun $ is going to have to be limitied till I get reaquainted with civilian life. I really can't wait though.
What have some of you done as far as .223/ .22lr suppressors.

I would look at a AAC Ranger, good price and would fill your requirements.

You might take a look at the HTG Universal.  7 oz, .223 capable @ 29 db reduction, 1" diameter, 44 db reduction on .22lr, 5.625" long (per the website) 1/2x28 threads will work on the AR or a threaded .22lr barrel.

i your worried about lead buildup inside the can from .22lr - take a look at the Tac 16... it comes apart of you have to get the crud.

From what I hear it's a good can for the price. Other than that I would say M4-1000.
