| .22 LR is the quieter way to go, just stick with a short barrel with H.V. rounds. Of course if the shot does'nt kill him, you'll probably have a screaming Raccoon on your hands. They can make a lot of racket when wounded, and will probably wake up the neighbor anyway. 223 is'nt real quite suppressed. |
that's what I was thinking. suppressed 22lr and excellent shot placement |
|
Silenced .22LR with CCI Standard Velocity (1070 FPS.. anything under 1082 is Subsonic). That round has enough umph to kill a coyotte at 100 yards with proper shot placement. Racoons would be dispatched easily (with proper shot placement as well). Quieter than a pellet gun. |

If you wouldn't be willing to discharge an unsuppressed .22lr with supersonic high velocity ammo, then you wouldn't want to do it with a suppressed .223 either. The two sounds are analogous in many respects. There is also the concern of power---if you are in a populated area, a centerfire rifle round will travel quite a long way. |
Is that at night when it's cool and dry or during the day when humid? |
Who's nights are cool and dry? ![]() Here we have fog at night hahaha. Just drop the raccoon in a hail of silenced 10/22 fire. 10 rounds should stop the Raccoon from making noise. And silenced .22 rifles are pretty quiet, so no need to be concerned about waking a neighbor. I'd recommend a bolt gun with Aguila SSS and head shots, but then you need a 1/9 barrel, and it's an annoying project gun. You probably just want to get the job done. |
