I want to take care of my raccon plauge here at the house went out last night and found five of the bastards pushing my trash cans around. With a suppressor would the neighbors still here a 223 or should i put one on my 22 instead. urban rodent hunting will it work or should I stick to paintballing the buggers.

I would think a dish of poison corn and antifreeze would take care of it.  .223 silenced at night can ring pretty loud, if in town, over the top for sound level. .22lr or silenced 9mm would be quieter.

Anything super sonic is LOUD.......223 is super sonic

Quiet pellet gun, if you reload .223 then size/prime a case, put a 22cal pellet into the end of the case backwards by thumb pressure.  Pretty quiet pellet gun.

I would not recommend touching off a .223 in an urban area.

.22 LR is the quieter way to go, just stick with a short barrel with H.V. rounds. Of course if the shot does'nt kill him, you'll probably have a screaming Raccoon on your hands. They can make a lot of racket when wounded, and will probably wake up the neighbor anyway. 223 is'nt real quite suppressed.

that's what I was thinking.

suppressed 22lr and excellent shot placement

Silenced .22LR with CCI Standard Velocity (1070 FPS.. anything under 1082 is Subsonic).

That round has enough umph to kill a coyotte at 100 yards with proper shot placement. Racoons would be dispatched easily (with proper shot placement as well).

Quieter than a pellet gun.

If you wouldn't be willing to discharge an unsuppressed .22lr with supersonic high velocity ammo, then you wouldn't want to do it with a suppressed .223 either. The two sounds are analogous in many respects.

There is also the concern of power---if you are in a populated area, a centerfire rifle round will travel quite a long way.

Is that at night when it's cool and dry or during the day when humid?

Who's nights are cool and dry?

Here we have fog at night hahaha.

Just drop the raccoon in a hail of silenced 10/22 fire.  10 rounds should stop the Raccoon from making noise.  And silenced .22 rifles are pretty quiet, so no need to be concerned about waking a neighbor.

I'd recommend a bolt gun with Aguila SSS and head shots, but then you need a 1/9 barrel, and it's an annoying project gun.    You probably just want to get the job done.

9mm fired wet is pretty quite and has more than enough power to kill a coon or possum.
