Ok, it's a Gemtech QD HVT.  If this turns to a bashing thread I'm deleting my posts and asking a mod to close the thread.  I don't think this has anything to do with the Gemtech design AT ALL.  I personally think it's just my setup.

Not gonna mention the suppressor just yet as I don't think it's the suppressor, but I have a confusing problem shooting my FN SPR A1a suppressed vs. unsuppressed.  I'll start by saying that suppressed or unsuppressed with 168gr FGMM, the rifle (if I do my part) shoots just under 1moa @ 100yds.  Seems slightly better with the suppressor off though.

Problem- using Black Hills 168gr and 175gr suppressed, groups turned to shit.  I'm talking 3-4+ moa @ 100yds.    Take the suppressor off, the 175gr. BH shoots roughly 1moa (again, doing my part).  Shot all of the BH 168gr. suppressed that I had with me so no basis for comparison with those.

Why would the Black Hills shoot THAT crappy with the suppressor on?  And why does it seem that the 168gr Federal Gold Medal Match goes nearly uneffected by suppressed vs. non-suppressed shooting?

if you dont think it's the suppressor then why does your rifle shoot fine without it? First thing i would do is check alignment of your suppressor to the bore. Sounds you like you are getting some light end cap strikes or baffle strikes.

take someone else with you to the range next time and let them shoot your rifle and ammo.  Maybe its just you not holding as solid with the can on because you know its doesnt recoil as much.

agreed...get someone else behind it...and if you tell us what type of suppressor it might help the problem...if it mounts just to a FH or if it reflexes over the barrel...etc

Isnt that 175 grain a little heavy for the 1/12 twist?

sounds liek either the reciol issue above, or the added weight may be casuing it to have a pinch point in the free float, or possibly the threading or lockup on the qd is messed up

I've seen it happen before, recently with a .30 YHM can.

I thought it might be too but I wanted to try it.  I got lucky as my 1/12 SPR will take the 175's fine (at least at 100yds) as well as 180gr Black Hills subsonics (also at 100yds).

Went back out and shot 30 more rounds as the sun was setting and had some good groups and some decent ones with FGMM.  I shot way too many rounds today (probably about 140rds or so).    Pulled a couple for sure but for the most part the suppressor with the FGMM is a good setup (also without the suppressor).

I'll need to do more testing with the BH and maybe find another driver but I'm still convinced that the BH doesn't work with my QD suppressor.    My worst groups with FGMM suppressed or unsuppressed aren't near as bad as the BH's groups suppressed.

Just FYI, I have the HVT suppressor and use the bilok mount on my GAP built Harbinger rifle.  I have not noticed the problems you are using either 168 or 175gr Federal GMM.  I've tried the BH 168, but not their 175.

Accuracy wise though overall, is a hair tighter without suppressor for me.

If the suppressor (or its alignment) were at fault, you should be having grouping issues with the 168 gr FGMM instead of just the BH. I do not know what geometry either ammunition manufacturer uses, but I do know that flat base bullets yaw less in the first couple of feet of flight than do boat-tain bullets. While not an issue non-suppressed, it can make a difference with the suppressor in place.

In the bullet weights you are talking about, the 1:12 twist should not be a problem. BTW, the HVT has a little more internal bullet path clearance than most .30 ca;liber suppressors.
