From reading the comments here and over at silencertalk, the AAC M4-1000 seems to be pretty popular.  Would that be a good choice for a first AR can?  I don't do any full auto and would be using a barrel between 11.5"-14.5".

Also, this is my first Class III purchase.  Would it make the most sense to find a local dealer to purchase from, rather than someone out of state?  Should I expect to pay exactly retail?

You will have to find a dealer in your home state (federal law--silencers are considered firearms). Most storefront dealers will charge you retail. Small, home based dealers may charge you anything from a percentage over their cost to retail plus a handling fee. Please remember that dealers need to pay their overhead (license, square footage, security, etc.), and they are responsible for safe storage of your purchase while waiting for ATF to approve the Form 4.

I would go to the Texas HTF and ask for some contact info on some class 3 dealers.

Plenty of them here in TX.

I used RCS guns as my FFL for my XXX Warrior.  He is not expensive.

I'm in the same boat, looking for a dealer in DFW for a M4-1000.

You guys might try Jeff Schramm.

Posting this in the HTF will get you a list of the best usual suspects and probably get you done alot faster.

not saying the m4-1000 sucks. But just keep in mind the silencertests forums are run by AAC employee's.  They are slightly biased  Look around and buy what you want. Trust me buy once and cry once. Get the best can you can afford.

And SWR sponsors and moderates this forum, and Gemtech sponsors this forum.

Just exactly how is that any different?

You comment was that silencertalk.com was involved with AAC and slightly biased.  By occlusion I took this to mean you were saying this site is not biased.
