I've done some reading on both, here on this forum, on the web, and on both companies' websites.  Having said that, I have a couple of questions for you seasoned folks who have used both.

First this is going to go on a Savage .22 bolt, and while I scrape money together for another one, a Ruger 22/45.  If it matters.

OK...

The Gemtech only mentions one thread pitch, the YHM several.  Does it matter? Should I care?  Can't I just get both guns' barrels threaded to whatever the can has?

The Gemtech is 0.5" shorter but half the weight.  Stupid question... Does weight matter in level of supression, insofar as the outside of the can being steel/aluminum, or is the sound signature entirely dependent on the internal baffels?

Fouling on the .22LR... Is one of these easier to clean and keep maintained that the other?

From your personal experience, which is quieter or easier on the ears?  I know, highly subjective, but I'm just curious.

Is one company's warranty better than the other's?

Any comments at all would be great.  Would like to get the unit ordered ASAP to start the wait for the stamp.

Thanks gang.

Should I care?  Can't I just get both guns' barrels threaded to whatever the can has?  I would choose 1/2x28 as it is the standard thread for .22lr suppressors.  You could thread barrels to another thread pitch, but if you ever want to get another .22lr suppressor from another mfg it would be more difficult as most offer only in 1/2x28.

The Gemtech is 0.5" shorter but half the weight.  Stupid question... Does weight matter in level of supression, insofar as the outside of the can being steel/aluminum, or is the sound signature entirely dependent on the internal baffels?  The sound signature is a result of size, design, spacing etc of the baffles.  I have never  read or heard about any difference in sound suppresson in .22lr suppressors between an aluminum or steel tube.  I would be more concerned with size and weight if/when you use this on a pistol.  My preference is for shorter and lighter especially on a pistol.

Of a bigger concern to me would be the diameter, the Wraith is 1.25 inches while the Outback II is 1 inch.  The larger diameter could partially obscure the stock sights on some guns.  On a rifle with a scope, this would not be an issue however.

Fouling on the .22LR... Is one of these easier to clean and keep maintained that the other?  I believe both are sealed units (I know the Gemtech Outback II is sealed as I have one.) and both have aluminum tubes so you should not use aggressive chemicals to clean.  I would say it would be about an even call on this question -- neither would be easy.

From your personal experience, which is quieter or easier on the ears?  I know, highly subjective, but I'm just curious.  I have NOT heard the Wraith, however my Gemtech Outback II is very quiet.

You are asking good questions.  Bottom line is that I think you would be very happy with either if you primary (or only) use was on a rifle.  If you plan on using one on a pistol, I would give the nod to the Gemtech Outback II.

I had the same question not long ago.  Since I haven't heard either, take this for what it's worth.  I decided on the Wraith because it is going on a dedicated .22 AR and I didn't mind the larger size and weight.  Also it is full auto rated, if somehow I can ever afford a full auto!!  When I'm ready for a dedicated pistol, I'm getting a Gemtech Oasis.  My dealer has not heard the Wraith either so when my stamp comes in we are going to do some side by side testing of .22 suppressors.

I have been thinking about getting a suppressor for a while, and will continue to do so since my 21st is not till December.  I like the stats for the OutbackII, but is there an advantage to a non sealed can?  I imagine cleaning, but apparently that is not necessary since they make sealed cans.  Also if there is an advantage then what is a good option for a non-sealed can.

Look at this and then you make up your own mind as to whether you think you should buy a sealed .22LR can or not.

Sealed .22 cans fill up with lead....period!

For take apart cans look here > www.tacticalinc.com/

Also AAC Prodigy and there are others as well.

on a bolt gun or a 10 shot pistol I wouldn't worry about them filling up.

if you shoot like me and run 2 bricks throught your can every other weekend or shoot a lot of FA .22lr I'd opt for a take appart can.

ETS crusader , AAC prodigy , are both solid core take down cans.

Tac inc and a few others have cans that come appart in multiple pieces , which is not bad as it tends to keep the cost down.

Not every mfg lists whether their cans are sealed or not... Besides the AAC, what are some popular rimfire cans that come apart for service and cleaning?

FWIW, I went with Gemtech due to the very positive customer service feedback.  My Outback II was my first can/class 3 purchase and I had a lot of questions.  Gemtech patiently helped me out with my questions and I will continue to do business with them in the future.

If they don't state on the website or in their literature that the can comes apart for end user cleaning, then you can can be fairly sure it is a sealed can.

As to wheather a can fills up under full auto etc.  It is true, it will fill up faster under full auto use.  The only question is how fast you get to 5,000 rounds, or 2,000 orwhatever the magic number is.

Lot's of people have Outbacks and other sealed up .22 cans.  And they will indeed service the can for you...not if but when it fills up with lead.

I became interested in this when I asked if I could shoot lead bullets through my 9mm silencer(Trident 9)  NOBODY said yeah go ahead, just don't shoot it full auto.  To a man the responses here were don't do it, it will fill up with lead and you'll be looking at a rebuild in short order.

Here are a couple of other manufacturers that offer cans that you can disassemble and clean:

Tactical Innovations TAC65 and QUEST

SRT COMANCHE

It seems like there are people out there waiting on their YHM Wraiths, but does anyone actually HAVE one?  Pictures would be awesome.

I've heard great stuff about the Outback II and my dealer has one in stock.  I like the larger size of the Wraith as well as the option for a QD, but finding opinions or reviews on them is tough.  Gemtech has great customer service and an even better product, but I'm still indecisive.  Someone out there has to have heard both.  Any input is appreciated.
