Well, i'm shopping for my first suppressor. I have no experience with them, and as I'm reading manufacturer marketing blurbs about them, it's raising questions. The most notable is the fact that most 9mm cans make mention of either a) working with "most" semi-auto 9mm handguns; or b) have a nielsen device so recoil reducing components are no longer necessary. Now obviously, as a relative newbie looking to make a purchase, this concerns me. I own a EAA Witness that I plan on having a barrel threaded for. Which suppressor would I want for this handgun? (I'm looking at the YHM Wraith and Cobra models, comments?) Also, if I get the 1/2x28 threads, will there be any reason why I wouldn't want to use this suppressor on my 9mm AR-15? Thanks in advance! -ska- |

I don't have first-hand experience with the YHM cans, but do use an Evo-9 and Evo-9 CQC on a G19. I've used the cans on an MP5K-PWD, Sig, HK, Beretta 92, and 9mm AR. The Evo cans all come with a booster (Nielson device), but can also be used with a FBA (Fixed Barrel Adapter) that now comes standard with the cans. Pop out the booster spring, insert the FBA and you can use the can on your AR. Note that Colt pattern 9mm ARs are usually .5x36 thread pitch. On the Evo cans that isn't a problem. Simply replace the piston in the can with one in whatever thread pitch you need and you are good to go. Easy to make the swap. The Evo-9 retails for $795, weighs 10oz and is 7.25" long x 1.25" diameter. This price includes the FBA and piston (when you order ask for whatever thread pitch you need; most common is .5x28). If the barrel moves you need a recoil device. Yes, you "may" get away without one, but chances are you won't and nothing is more frustrating then spending a bunch of money for a new toy and not having it work. To get it to work without one usually requires swapping out springs, whcih means you can't go back to shooting regular ammo until you swap the springs around again. Sounds like a pain in the butt because it is! I can only speak to the Colt 9mm AR, but that has .5 X 36 threads on the end of the barrel. As well, you need to some how disable your Nielsen device before shooting it on a fixed barrel gun like the AR. ETA - Oops, Bookhound beat me to it. |
