Hello all... I am very excited to finally have my first supressor, a Striker II for my MP5 clone (a Bobcat BW-5). However, I do have some questions/issues for the group-- * The thread protector I have on now won't allow the Striker II to clear (it's just a hair too wide)--should I get the "H&K Thread Protector MP-5 Navy" from AAC? Will that work? * What's the best commercial 147gr ammo out there? I was thinking of picking up some Am. Eagle or Win, but would prefer something that runs a little cleaner. * I did shoot a few rounds with the thread protector off (apparently I shouldn't have after reading the manual). Anyway, accuracy was noticeably off. Would a thread protector make the difference? Thanks! |

Yeah, it was quite off (three inches or so) at only 15yds. I was concerned after reading the manual that the protector is necessary for proper alignment. So I looked at the silencer as closely today as I could and didn't see any damage to the baffles. There wasn't any fragments or anything coming out of it either, so I hope everything is good. Your right. I'm not going to shoot anymore until I find a protector that fits. Hopefully AAC's MP5 Navy will work. |
| I just went through the same issue with my new Striker II that I picked up last weekend. I shot 20 rounds to try it and I shot two inchs to the right of Point of aim at 10 yards. I'm going to order the smooth protector. It is a sweet can. I'm pleased with the way it sounds. I shot it in a large warehouse with lots of echo and shooting 115 grain. It was still hearing safe. It should sound much better shooting 147's outdoors. |
Indeed. 115 gr indoors sounded just a little louder than a .22 that was shot nearby. I only shot about 5 rds of the 147gr (it was then that I realized it was way off), but they were noticeably quiter. I can't wait for the new protector to arrive. I'll report back when it does. |

Don't know if you guys have read my thread ...Tros and strikerII Did your cans lock up tight with the 3 lug setup? I may or may not have issues, any feedback would be appreciated. HMC...there must have been a considerable amount of movement with no thread protector on there? |
It locks on and stays on the lugs no problem and has some slight movement when mounted. I'm not sure if that little bit of play has anything to do with a lack of a protector, but I'm not chancing it anymore--I'm going to get the right protector before risking a strike. On the inaccuracy...Is it possible that the lack of a protector is making the can move slightly when firing? Or...could it be a drop in pressure within the can?  |
| My can locks up good. No play but I do have the HK protector with the knobs. I have a smooth one ordered from AAC. I'm not shooting with the can until I get the new protector. $24 item sidelined my can. They should mention this issue on the website. I was not even aware until I read the Owner's manual. |
Agreed. They DO mention a thread protector as necessary, but don't mention what type. I think I'll give them a call to make the suggestion. Had I known this, I would have no bought the protector I have now. |
| I would not even think about shooting it anymore without the thread protector unless you want to pay AAC 1/2 the initial cost to rebuild it. My 3 lug can (SWR Trident) is rock solid on my gun and has no noticeable movement. No can should have movement on your gun, wait until you get the correct part. |

Update: AAC's thread protector came in today, and DOESN'T FIT!  AAC's protector appears to be 1/2-32. I believe my barrel is 1/2-28, as the other thread protector I used fit fine (other than it being too wide for the Striker II), and I think it was 1/2-28. I'll give AAC a call tomorrow and find out, but that one won't work regardless. Maybe they have another size... Or worse, my barrel threading might be out totally of spec. CRAP!  Suggestions? |
I thought all the authentic HK "navy" models used .5x32.  This is certainly the case for all the real MP5 navy models I've ever seen. However, I know a guy with a SW clone (same as your Bobcat pretty much) and the threads on his clone are .5x28. Whenever ordering something that uses threads it is always good practice to double check what you need with what you are ordering. Sorry you are still having problems. I know that is frustrating. Call AAC and see if they have any .5x28 protectors.Mark |
I believe that I spoke with you on the phone. Unfortunately many non factory HK clones do not use the factory Navy thread pitch which is .5 x 32. Many use .5 x 28 which is a very common 9mm thread for pistols. In the future it may help if you identify the rifle as a clone and not an HK navy. When the description of HK is used specific specifications are assumed. Send the .5 x 32 thread protector back and I will try and find a smooth .5 x 28 thread protector for you. For everyone’s benefit do not ever shoot a Striker-II on a Navy style MP-5 if there is no thread protector in place. The smaller diameter of the threaded bore will allow for unnecessary wobble when the silencer is mounted facilitating poor accuracy and/or a baffle strike. Freddy W. Thompson Jr Advanced Armament |

If you could let me know if you guys have a .5 X 28 thread protector, I would greatly appreciate it, and will re-order.
Yep, unfortunately found this out the hard way, but it could have been much, much, much worse. I guess I was lucky that there was no damage to my gun or can. Thanks for your help. |

Fred that was me that called you. I contacted Ralph at RDTS and did confirm that what I have is 12x 28. So I'll be sending back the protector I got from you guys. I do have one question. I shoot 20 rounds 2 inches right of point of aim at 10 yards. Going from a knobbed to a smooth protector is going to make such a big difference? Also how hard will it be to remove the protector after shooting the rifle? Thanks for your help |

Just a quick update... I'm happy to report problem is finally solved. David, from the boards here, made me a 1/2 X 28 protector and it fits perfectly. The Striker II fits perfectly over the protector and the point of impact with the can is dead-on as the gun itself without it. I shot 150 rds of AE 147gr through it today with not a single problem. Dead accurate and very quiet. I'm hooked on silencers now--a P22 can is next! It's great to see good guys taking care of others here @ ARFCOM. Thanks again David! |
