Does anyone know if there is a way to use or make some type of adaptor to work on a bull barrel? I have a bolt action w/ a bull barrel and the Surefire brake wont fit over it. I was wondering if some type of barrel extension could be made that has the same profile as the SF brake, but it is just tapped on one end to fit a particular thread pitch... I already have a few cans in a few different calibers...I hate to spend another grand when I could potentially use what I already have. Any thoughts? |

if your barrel is not threaded, then when you go to get it threaded, have them turn down the area of the barrel that goes under the adapter. this way you won't add length to your setup. downside, you will have to refinish your barrel. Some phenolic reson (moly coat) would work well for your situation |

CTsupply nailed it. I had the same issue with the barrel on my PSS and the flash suppressor mount for my 762-SD. Jered at Patriot Arms cut the barrel, threaded it and made the relief cut in the barrel that was needed to accomodate the "sleeve" part of the flash suppressor mount. He charged me like an extra $50 bucks to make that extra cut and refinish it. He does very good work. If you contact Jered, please tell him I sent ya and he'll be sure to take care of you. Mark |

Thanks for the reply guys. The only issue I have with that is that it has beautiful OD Ceracoated fluted fat Krieger Bull Barrel. Nothing against Surefire, but that adaptor will F'n Kill the great look of a very expensive Surgeon custom stick. has anyone heard of turning the profile of the compensator directly into the barrel? I have e-mailed and called Surefire, but no one seems to want to answer these questions. |
prebandit, you would have a very expensive and difficult time turning your barrel to the compensator profile. because of the dimension would have to be exact with the shoulders and not to mention the locking teeth. I think it would be hard to replicate. Seems like you have a very expensive rifle that you would be taking the chance of damaging. Surefire doesn't have a short mount 308 version (at least not to my knowledge). So i think your almost out of luck with this gun unless you want to remove some metal from your barrel. somehing you might want to consider is the SWR Omega, Gemtech HVT, or even the YHM phantom 30. The preivously mentioned suppressors have QD mouns that could be mounted on the end of your barrel with simple threading. just a thought and if you have already thought about this, this ignore this part of my post. good luck |

Does anyone know what profile barrel the Surefire mount will work with? I've got an M1A that was built to the Troy Industries SOPMOD spec and is screaming for a suppressor. It has .5x28 threads as well. I think the barrel may just be too odd to work with the standard mounts. I guess my backup plan is a AAC 762SD. What I really want is something that will have minimal POI shift when removed and replaced and then minimal POI shift when going from suppressed to unsuppressed. I would also like to keep the overall length increase as small as possible. Is the Surefire can even the best choice? Spooky |
i am pretty sure the reasons underlined above, the surefire can might come out ahead.. |
i would have to agree on these qualifiers |
I just read that in a magazine - you can never believe them! Any idea on barrel profile that is compatible with their mounts? Spooky |
