Looking at getting a G5.  My question is, does the Quick-Mount on the G5 really do away with the carbon build-up/sleeve sticking problems of the M4-96D/Bi-Lock?  Any first-hand feedback from users is appreciated.  Thanks.

I am not sure how proper it is for the manufacturer to jump in, but we may be able to answer the question the best.

Imagine that in the M4-96D mount we were to cut the flange off the movable sleeve, permanently attach the cylindrical part of the sleeve into the mount body, and have the large flange (that touches the lugs) be the spring-loaded moving part. Also eliminate all O-rings. Also, place a few longitudinal grooves in the fixed sleeve portion to cut carbon.

We have done extensive testing with this new mount and have yet to have it stick. Obviously, one does need to periodically remove the suppressor from the weapon to break up the carbon that comes through the flash hider slots, but thios is an action that is necessary with any flash-hider mounting suppressor.

We think this is a serious improvement. We have listened to the customer feedback on the M4-96D, and the G5 is the result.

I know a guy with a G5 and he has run the can pretty hard.  His mount has not had any sticking problems.  HTH.

Is it possible to have an existing M4-96D retrofitted with the new mounting system?

I have the G-5 Phantom style bi-locks on 7 different rifles.

No baffle strikes.
No mounting problems.
Any carbon build up is wiped clean that evening , just like you would clean a bolt carrier.

Good stuff.

Yes, but it is not simple or inexpensive. Besides total disassembly, the rear mount has to be cut out and the tube shortened 1/4 inch to keep the original dimensions. Contact us next week for costs. Time frame runs 2-4 weeks, depending on how snowed we are.

This is not a total conversion to the G5, but rather a mount upgrade. A letter we have from ATF indicates that we cannot shorten the overall length of the suppressor.

I think it is a worthwhile modification, and I did it to my personal one.

Is it economically feesable or even possible to change an M4-02 to the new QD mounting system?

No. The diameters are different and the G5 mounting system cannot be made to fit the M4-02.

to piggyback on to this thread, if PHD can answer...
Is the bilock mount the same for a G5 as anM4-96D?

If you have the flash hider mount from an M4-96D, it will work with the G5.  The flash hider styles may have changed, but their dimensions did not.  It is "backwards compatible" to borrow a phrase...

I use the late model Gemtech bi-lock with my SWR Specwar2, works perfectly.

Your advertisement says that the G5 is more effeicient than the M4-96D. Does that mean it is a tad quieter?

Slightly quieter, shorter, lighter weight.

I was just looking at the website for the G5 and noticed there isn't any dB rating.  I see they don't advertise them.
Does anyone know of a range that the G5 would be in.

Also, what is gemtech's warranty???

The db's should be around mid 30's reduction, I have a M4-96D and I have shot against some other cans that were around mid 30's rating and it was just as quiet with the tone of mine being lower which I thought sounded better. The G5 is supposed to be quieter than my older M4-96D. Gemtech stands behind their products as good or better than other manufacturers. Buy with confidence from Gemtech.

My can has never got stuck in any way in the last 2 years of ownership.

Is installation of the G5 mount recommeded to be done by Gem-Tech, or can the user install with some Red Loctite ?

Would be installing on CMMG 14.5" 1/7 barrel and CMMG 11.5" 1/7 barrel.

OK,
I am still looking at a bunch of suppressors including the new 416 from AAC.  I would be mounting on a 10.5" barrel.

The manual for my M4-96D says 32 dB, so probably about that.

Actually the G5 is slightly quieter than the M4-96D. Even though we shortened it up and made it lighter we still managed to pick up a little better reduction using the newer baffle design.

I really wish Gemtech would add "OAL Added to Weapon" inches on there website as well in the specifications section.  Some have it added in the description fields but some don't.

Suppressors are too expensive to be guessing at specs.  The more information, the better for us noobs.

I am in the market to purchase a can for my Colt M16, Model 901. I know nothing about silencers so I am looking at all options available.

How does the G5 compare to other silencers on the market?

What is the shortest barrel a G5 should be mounted on?

How is the warrenty and customer service?

Please feel free to email me incase you don't feel comportable posting comments. My email address is [email protected].

Thank You,

I have an outback II that I'm addicted to.  Was looking for a .223 suppressor for a long time, but I finally settled on a gemtech and paid for a G5 yesterday,  hoping to take posession in 6-8 weeks depending on shipping times, paperwork, etc.

Will post some pics and video when I can.

UPDATE paperwork sent in 5/17

Check cashed 5/23...
