I purchased a LCW Predator .22 suppressor through The Gun Garage. Dave answered lots of questions and was very helpful. I couldn't be happier with his service and communication. Highly recommended (I've used him for multiple Dura-Coating jobs too). The BATFE only took about 30 days to process the trust form. So no real complaints there. At the same time I paid for the suppressor to begin the paperwork, I contacted Lauer Custom Weaponry to have two barrels threaded for the suppressor. I was quoted a price of $120/gun (plus tax) and a turn-around time of 2-1/2 to 4 weeks. Although this price was high, I enjoyed the thought of supporting a Wisconsin business that produces & services NFA items, and it avoided the hassles of shipping the firearms since LCW is within a short drive of relatives. In the end, the work was done well. Of course, I have no idea who did it because the gunsmith refused to tell me to whom it had been sent. Which makes me wonder whether Lauer sent them out at all, because by denying they had the guns, Lauer could extort the $$ from me when they finally got around to doing the work. So far, I'm satisfied with the Predator. But Lauer won't see another penny from me, as I'll go out of my way to give my business to any other company. So much for supporting a local outfit. |
| hello. that is definately lauer service! i always have to twist their arm to get anything in a reasonable amount of time. supposedly, they do their own threading. at least this is what their gunsmith greg told me. i get my barrels threaded at the local gander mountain. very cheap.and very good return time ( same day ) ( 55.00 to 75.00 ) very nice work. had them thread my fn-fal. everyone else said i had to have the barrel removed. gander made a special holding fixture and turned it. works great with my can where are you and the other guy from wisc located? we could get together and go shooting. ive got quite a few cool toys. email me at [email protected] |
I'm happy with it, particularly for the price, but I don't have enough experience with other brands to have an intelligent comparitive opinion. |

A lot of names like Noveske do great work in about 10 weeks. Gander mountain does 4-6weeks, and I wouldn't trust them for the work. It could be a lot worse, you could have tried to buy an M4-2000 and waited half a year for the can to ship. I guess what I'm trying to say is two months is frustrating, but I can see it happening and i understand it. M60 joe does great work and turns around fast, but then you have to ship guns- so I guess you have to figure out what it's worth. UPS today isn't cheap. Sending My TRP operator would cost $100 with insurance GROUND. That $1.75 a $100 plus shipping adds up. |
| hello. i would say that your gander must be very different from the one in eau claire. never more than 2 days turn-around time. ive never had a single problem with their threading or shortening. neither has a friend of mine. they were only one out of 2 that would even thread my fn-fal to 1/2x28. the other guy wanted 3 times as much, and said that i would have to remove the barrel for him to thread it. gander made a special holder and it turned out beautiful, without removing the barrel. over 500rds through it with the silencer and no problems at all. kirk |

Hey, I've done business with Dave. He is a great guy! We've had some nice chats on the phone. Please tell him Mark from PSI said hello and Happy New Year. Glenn, any pics of the Predator? Sorry about your threading problems. We use Jered at Patriot Arms and Jeff Green at the Firing Lane to do all our threading jobs. They both do very high quality work and turn things around for us very quickly. Both are cheaper the Lauer too. If you ever need to send something out of state, I can tell you these guys won't let you down. Best regards, Mark |

Why would you BTT to keep out of the archives? just to smear Lauer? My .22lr pistol conversion was with Noveke for two months to thread the barrel. I like the upper, the threading was well executed. If you want gunsmithing it will take time. If you want quick gunsmithing you need to know of a QUICK source. M60Joe does threading with what seems to be a one week turn-around AAC used to do it and claimed a one month turn-around 6 weeks on anything abnormal like a HK metric thread. . <they don't anymore but my point is long leads are INDUSTRY STANDARD. Anything quick is an EXCEPTION. NOT A RULE. It could be WAY WORSE. You could be like me and buy an ABS barrel that takes over a year to ship. This is the custom world- lots of waiting. |
I've had custom work done on firearms before. But nobody else has repeatedly lied to me, over and over, and then farmed out the work to someone else because of their inability to perform. I see a difference there. |

Oh forget it. Tar and feather them for taking 4 weeks too long. just don't be surprised if the next people you use do the same thing. Gunsmiths longer lead times than quoted: Noveske 6 weeks (I was still happy) ABS barrels 10 months Josh Halfman 17 months (WORK NOT SATISFACTORALLY COMPLETE) CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT Nighthawk 2 months (happy) Action Works 6 weeks (happy) BAR STO: barrel ordered five months ago NO SIGN of it. KKF .22cal barrel 6 months I'm probably forgetting a few. |
