I'm in the market for a integral 22 Ruger and was very interested in the Gemtech OASIS. Does anyone have actual hands on experience they would like to share? |
Suppo, shoot me an e-mail with your dealer's name and I'll let you know where it's at. As for personal experience. I'll obviously be a bit biased due to my affiliation but on a personal level, I've had access to one of the first, prototype OASIS units for a little while. They are a total kick in the pants! I have a personal preference for using them on the Ruger MkIII polymer lowers because they are SUPER lightweight (21 oz.). It is one of my favorite toys to take out and play with. |
That is exactly my plan. What is the current wait time for one? |
Sound is about the same, I'd say the Outback-II probably has a slight edge on sound but the OASIS certainly wins on astetics. I have an OD green one on a black, polymer Mk III and the two tone of the OD on black really appeals to me. Yes, you can run CCI Standard Vel. through it and it will stay subsonic. |
I was trying to figure out what the heck you were talking about until I read your sig line. I have purchased a Ruger Mark III 22/45 as well to serve as the 'host'. The pic on the Gem-Tech website was what hooked me. I'm not too concerned with the decibel minutae. I figure as long as it's comparable to my Amphibian II, I'll be happy. However, the Oasis appears to have a shorter barrel than the Amphibian. The Amphibian has a pretty long barrel. Also, I purchased the Gem-Tech from Jeff Schramm in TX. I guess I didn't know you could buy directly from Gem-Tech. |
Thanks. That's what I meant to convey. I know interstate transfers require a dealer, but I didn't know that Gem-Tech would take funds from a non-dealer. |
| Anything else to say about the Oasis? My dealer has one and I really want it. It looks great. I have an old stainless MKII I could put it on but would probably get a new polymer MKIII. I'm torn between that an an Outback. It would be more versatile but damn the Oasis is sweet. |
I played with one this morning. It is a nice compact unit, excellent fit and finish. I have a John's Guns Integral and the Oasis was much nicer. I also have a Tactical Solutions threaded upper and it is comparable to that for obvious reasons. |
Opinion on the sound difference between John's and the compact Oasis. I still have not had a chance to compare them. |

Just one point of clarification about buying direct from Gemtech. We are manufacturers with a dealer network, and we are not set up for the retail business. We can sell direct to any non-Idaho individual only if he has an FFL so we can ship direct to him. Federal law allows us to sell dealer direct even though the dealer does not have an SOT (done on a Form 4). Even in Idaho, we sell through our local dealers, not direct. Although an individual can send us funds to pay for a product to be transferred through his dealer, thiis is not cost effective to the end user for two reasons. First, the dealer will add a handling or transfer charge. Second, to protect our dealers, we charge list price to anyone lacking an FFL (where we could transfer direct). If we were to play "Shotgun News" and disclose our dealer pricing to the world, we would lose all our stocking dealers. Further, we are not set up to rebate the difference to the dealer. Our tech support personnel are always available to answer questions of a technical nature, and we can always deal directly with the end user for weapon modifications or repairs. Philip H. I did not know this, so a little clarification please. For example, suppose I live in West Texas, and have a local FFL without SOT. Nearest FFL/SOT is very far away, or charges $200 for a transfer, whatever. You can ship silencer interstate to non-SOT FFL on Form 4, instead of Form 3, and then he can sell to me again on Form 4? Only difference is the additional $200 tax for the first transfer on form 4 instead form 3? Is this correct? |
I played with it but did not shoot it. I really liked the compactness though. It was on a 22/45 frame and was very light too. |
If you have an FFL (non-SOT), you can order and buy directly. We transfer it on a Form 4, you pay the $200 tax plus costs. On approval, we ship directly to you. As far as ATF is concerned you as an FFL can buy any firearm across state lines from another FFL. If the item is a title-II weapon, it goes on a tax-exempt Form 3 ONLY if both FFLs have an SOT. Otherwise it goes on a Form 4 with a $200 transfer tax. If you do not have an FFL, you must (as I understand it) buy from an FFL with an SOT. The SOT is required to actually deal in NFA weapons. This is a little confusing, and this is the way it has been explained to me. If this is unclear, check with ATF. |
