I am thinking to taking the big plunge into class 3. I've got my software to write my trust and a gunsmith who can thread the barrel of my remington nylon 77.

what suppressor should i get. it needs to be skinny so the sights clear the can. and i want the gun dead quiet with sub sonic loads.

Most have a 1" diameter.

The SWR Warlock is reasonably priced, has the best customer service & is also the quietest.

All in a beautifully-crafted package.

I love mine, both pistol and rifle mounted.

No semi is going to be dead quiet just because of the bolt noise. Get a bolt gun and you'll be amazed.

Don't worry about the sights either. that can be worked out, either by training to "look through" the can (for lack of a better term, just ignoring the can between the sights and the target), or by sourcing some higher sights or using optics.

I believe GB Shaw so here's some free advice.  Hire a lawyer to write the trust.  Make sure the gunsmith has threaded barrels for silencers before and understands exactly what he is doing.  If he doesn't then send it to a suppressor manufacturer, preferable the one from whom you buy your suppressor.  Barrel threading isn't cheap and cheap barrel threading can destroy your suppressor.  Sell the Remington Nylon and buy a Ruger 10/22 and have it threaded.  You will be forced to shoot subsonic loads through longer barrels like a rifle has, or firing the gun will have roughly the same sound as unsuppressed as the round will break the sound barrier.

Pick any 22 suppressor you want, but I would like to add the Gem-tech Outback, the SRT Comanche and the TAC 65 to the list of recommended cans.

An all stainless suppressor will allow more agressive cleaning.  Aluminum baffles can be damaged by some cleaning methods.

Barrel threading is very important.  Don't let any hack or kitchen table gunsmith touch your rifle.  Pay to have it done right and save yourself the grief that comes from a bad threading job.  Remember, it's not like your slapping on a nice M-16 flash hider on the barrel.  Dimensions are tighter and the tube the bullet must fly through is longer.

Dead quiet?  Doesn't exist in my book.  A bolt action 22lr will come a lot closer then your Nylon 66.

Any can from a major manufacturer will work well because 22lr's aren't that hard to suppress well.  Yes, some are better but, most don't have a huge differences in performance.

Finally, DEMO a can before you spend your money so you know what you are buying!  Movies, television and, media give most people a false impression of what a good suppressor can do.

thanks for all of the replies. won't be EVER selling the Nylon 77. it was my 1st gun. I'll look into sending it off to be threaded.

TAC-65 is probably the least expensive on the market right now.  Just picked mine up this week.  Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Don't make price your primary concern. You're going to own it forever, so buy quality and only cry once.

I have some AWC's and one by Keith Norman. Pretty happy with all of them. My bolt-action Ruger 77-22 with an AWC "Archangel T" is remarkably quiet - the bullet strike is by far the loudest thing you hear.

Pilot, Warlock and Outback-II are all very good.  I think the Outback-II is the best value dollars to reduction.  However, I own a Pilot and couldn't be happier with it.  Hollywood quiet is not all that achievable.  The Warlock is the quietest on a given day but it's also quite a bit more expensive.  Is the extra 2 or 3 db worth an extra $250 -$300?  I'm not saying it is not worth it but you need to understand that the human ear, or at least my human ears, really can't hear 2 or 3 db difference.  It sounds like a different tone but not necessarily quieter if that makes sence.

I have Warlocks in stock. Retail is $395. It is more than the Outback-II and less than the Pilot. Overall I think it is a good value, especially when you consider the SWR no questions asked warranty and rebuild policy.

The place in Bradenton has Gemtechs in stock. I think he gets about $300.- for an Outback II with the Ti thread insert. Gemtech charges around $95.- to thread a barrel.
Let me know if you want to buy one from the place in Bradenton, I want to get a can for my AR next and maybe we can get some type of discount if we buy at the same time.

I'm with you!  My Nylon 66 was my first gun and it's still on the top of my list. It'll shoot longer without jamming than any other .22 I've ever shot.

For my next project, I'm planning on buying an extra barrel for it off of E-bay and then threading it and making my own can on a form 1.  Can't wait....
