I have never had any experience with suppressors but have been looking over the postings here and have a few questions.  I ask as I am considering a suppressor for my Walther P22 or 10/22.

How much of decrease in report will I get from a typical can when I use sub-sonic ammo?  Are ear plugs still needed?

What is the best bang for the buck, so to speak, when looking at suppressors for a .22LR?

Thanks in advance,

CSP

A .22LR silencer is the closest you will get to 'Hollywood Quiet'. With subsonic ammo from a P22 you can expect a report similar to that of a BB gun. It will be plenty quiet to shoot without hearing protection.

Ear plugs definatly not needed even with the low bidder 22lr silencers.

Buy a good name brand silencer and both the p22 and 10-22 will be louder than a cheap ass spring BB rifle, but quieter than a pump BB or Pelet rifle.

In the 10-22 your barrel will be long enough you will not want to shoot any High Velocity ammo to keep the gun quiet.

Ditto what DarkHelmet says.  In the P22 you will not need to use subsonic ammo for the bullet to say subsonic.  Any standard velocity and bulk ammo stayed subsonic in my P22.  In terms of (lack of) bang for the buck I suggest:

Gemtech Outback-II:

SRT Cheyenne XL:

SWR Warlock:

Another excellent suppressor, but a bit more expensive is the AAC Pilot:

AAC Pilot w/ cheap Remington rounds sounds like a Brad nailer. SWEET!

I thought the prodigy was not that quiet. Its main selling point was light weight and small size.

I've got a SRT Cheyenne (not the XL) on order right now. Plan to use it on my 10/22 and P22. I can't wait

The Prodigy is on par with the Pilot for size and sound (~40dB reduction).  It can be disassembled for cleaning, while the Pilot is sealed.

My vote is for the Warlock. It's an excellent design.

- It's as quiet as .22 suppressors come. I don't think there's a quieter, modern-production .22 suppressor on the market.

- Extremely accurate...tightens my groupings at 50 yds.

- SS Threads

- Easy to clean...Even though some say that a .22 suppressor should get a bit dirty, to be optimal, I keep mine clean.

- Nice Cordura carrying case.

- Looks at home on a P-22 and 10/22 with Bull Barrel

- Last, but not least...Supported by Joe's supreme customer service...which is the best in the industry. Period.

How much am I looking at for a LCW Predator, or a SWR Warlock, or a Gemtech Outback-II?  Any places in TN selling these?

I am aware of the $200.00 tax stamp.

Thanks again.

I got my LCW on sale from the Factory.... you should call and see what deals they can work for you. (I got mine for 32% of retail)

I know about the disassembly part. I also wanted better sound suppresion .

mine is longer bigger and heavier. I would like to shoot it next to a factory prodigy and a few others just for shits and giggles.

if any one around my neck of the woods would like to hear it just drop me a line

The best bang for the money is a quality unit you will never regret buying, never be embarased being seen in public with, never have to say I wish I had bought something better the first time.

Buy quality, buy once.

My SWR Warlock using Remington sub sonics out of my P22 or MKII Pac-Lite sounds exactly like that, a CO2 BB gun.
