I will be buying a new .22 suppressor in the next day or two and I am trying to decide between the two.  If anyone could give and opinion that has experience with either it would be appreciated.  Also, could you also explain why you think either is better.

Thanks.

Not going to help you much, but it was my impression they were very similar products.

I think the descision might be better made on the basis of who has the better customer service reputation or warranty/replacement charge in the event the unit becomes dirtied to the point you want a new one or damaged.

I just looked on the website and saw the outback has a titanium thread insert, so I guess they aren't as similar as I thought.  I also saw the (patent pending) next to that feature, and wonder why that would be patentable idea material.  The weight difference of an ounce I guess is in favor of the outback, although that might also mean that the pilot might be a little more durable.

I went with the Outback II with the titanium threads.  I change it between 4 guns, so I knew the treads would see a lot of on/off cycles.

Someone will soon post that you should buy one that you can disassemble, but I don't remember who made them.  I would look at that one for my next purchase, if someone will refresh me on the name.

Are they priced the same?  If not, go with the one that's the least expensive.

I have a Pilot and I'm very pleased with it. I bought it basically because AAC is close by incase I have a problem. It's very quiet.

There's your answer.

You might want to check out the SWR Warlock too.

Can you tell me a little about your pistol? Where did you get the Tac Sol barrel? Was it easy to install?
How much should I expect to pay for a Browing Buckmark pistol like the one you started with?

I'm waiting for my dealer to get some Outback II's in so I can get my first can. I have a P22 that I plan on using it on until I get my 10/22 set up, and now I think I might also want a Buckmark.

jmkrick,
The P22 is supposed to be a very good platform for suppression. You may want to pickup one of these adapters for your P22:

Best quality adapter I've seen for the P22.

I voted for the outback II even though I have a Pilot, for thre years, I am very happy with.  They are very similar in most of the important ways; size, weight, suppression, materials, but the Outback II now has the upper hand with a signifigant price difference.

I got the barrel direct from Tactical Solutions through the store where I work part-time. The Buckmark is basically one of the 5.5" bull barrel URX models that one of our distributors (Ellett Brothers) had Browning do a run of 500 units with the red splash. The barrel was easy to install once I got the screw holding the Browning barrel on loose; it was VERY tight. The pistol cost me around $260 which was the wholesale price. I'd probably price it at $299 if it went into inventory.

Outback II and Pilot sound about the same, but the Outback-II costs less.

outback II due to price, but I would go with the SWR Warlock over both. I have shot the (SWR) 22 omega next to the OBII and they sound the same except the OBII had a bad first round pop and the SWR omega didn't. the SWR warlock is said to be even quieter that the omega so .... SWR warlock.

i voted for outbackII

i have the outback with the Ti threads and the main selling point was a stocking dealer in my area so it was less wait time and cheaper all around.

I responded to this on Silencertests.com but, for anyone considering a .22 can either is a worthy option. I liked the Pilot, Outback II, and Warlock. Nobody had any of theses silencers in stock. I emailed dealers for all three brands and only two even bothered to return my email. So for me, it was a Pilot, but I would have been just as happy with the other two. If the Prodigy was in full production, I might have held out for one of those. Also, since the Pilot was over $100 more than the Outback, I'm hoping that the "total package" that I hear about the Pilot is worth it. The good thing is my dealer let me start the paperwork for the state (CLEO in my area) before the can in even in stock.

Ignorant question - what is the significance of Ti threads - durability?  What are the Pilot's threads made of, aluminum?

Pilots are stainless.

Aluminum galls on stainless and I have had to deal with it several times.  Maybe not with a can and a barrel, but I know it can be a bad deal.  Titanium has the strength of steel, weight of aluminum.  Stainless on stainless can be a bad deal too.  YMMV.

So far the Outback has the poll by almost 7 in 10 suppressors.  Perhaps the Pilot has priced itself out of the market?  The Prodigy will make the Pilot obsolete when AAC screw on cans are considered.  The Pilot offers nothing when compaired to the Prodigy can except for price and the ability to disassemble for cleaning outweighs the price.  If they ever outlaw NEW suppressors like they did machine guns in 1986 (except for those registered prior to the ban) the ability to clean the suppressor by disassembly will be worth six times what a sealed up or TOTALLY WELDED up can will bring.

However, you should buy the Outback II with TI threads and never think about it again.

I have decided to purchase the Outback II.  When the Prodigy becomes available, I will be purchasing one also in true AR15.com fashion.

"Perhaps the Pilot has priced itself out of the market?"

Then whatwould that say about the Prodigy at twice the price?

"If they ever outlaw NEW suppressors like they did machine guns in 1986 (except for those registered prior to the ban) the ability to clean the suppressor by disassembly will be worth six times what a sealed up or TOTALLY WELDED up can will bring."

That's really rediculous.
