My local gun store has a mystery Rem. Model 700. It's a stainless steel 308 with a 24" barell and a dark gray stock (with light gray fiber strands). The barell crown does not look standard. The price tag is marked Model 700 "mil-spec" $895.00 Any clue ??

Sounds like a limited run that they put out.  check the rifling - the limeted edition one had 5 grooves instead of the normal 6.  I don't know about pricing.

That's an excellent price for a limited run M24 from Remington.  Remington got a contract to make about 300 rifles for the US Army.  This topic was covered a few days back.
