In gunstore, I saw a used but not abused S&W 625 Stainless steel revolver. 6" bbl. .45 ACP.  Full lug, Adj sights, Hogue grips.  Has been professionally ported, and trigger work done.  Single- and double-action take-ups and let-offs are about as good as you could ask for.  Perfectly smooth until the fabled "glass rod" breaks.  With Blue S&W plastic case.  Asking price is $585.00
Your opinions, please?

I paid $600 for a brand-new 3" 625-7 in .45 Colt, which is rather harder to find. I'd say the price was a bit high. If you must have a strong DA revolver in .45 ACP, there are not many choices, though.

If I ever get a job, I'm going to go looking for a used blue steel 25 (probably two: one in .45 ACP and one in .45 Colt), and a used 29.

Oh, and a new Kimber Ultra Compact . . .

The blued steel N frames seem to be gaining value, not surprisingly.  I may have to let someone talk me out of my 6" Lew Horton Classic Hunter Model 29 so I can afford a good 3" 629 to match the 3" 625 I already have.

About a month ago I picked up a mint 625 Mountain Gun (3" skinny barrel) in 45LC for $425 from a dealer.

About two years ago I bought a NIB 625 3" (underlug, matte finish, rosewood K-frame grip) for $550

If you can, try to one that is pinned.  Some of the unpinned ones (made I guess in the 1980’s) were pretty bad.  However, I don’t think the .45LC was ever made with a pinned barrel.

I also have a vague recollection that the first 45LC 25’s were inaccurate since the forward part of the cylinder chambers were smaller than the bore.  I believe this was corrected at some point.

Those cylinder walls are awfully thin!

That's awfully high for a used one.  The work done adds some value, but you can get brand new 5-inchers for that.
