Is there any difference in the A-1 and A-2 front sight assemblies? I'm asking because I bought an A-2 front sight tool for my AR and it has 4 prongs but there are 5 slots around my front sight post. Do I need to get an A-1 sight tool? TIA.

I thought the A1 front site was a fixed post.

A1= round post, requires 5-prong tool.
A2= square post, requires 4-prong tool.
They are interchangeable.
The point of a bullet or similar can be used in lieu of a special tool.

Get an A2 post.
