Wanting to ditch my AR15's and use 2 of these to fill the role of general purpose do all
rifle. Any suggested mods that need to be done to the PTR 91 to attain this? |

The GI one I owned was pretty well put together. I like the welded on top rail.
Trigger job does wonders, there's a few guys out there that do good work with quick turnaraound time for sub $100 Mine was pretty accurate with pretty much every 150 grain range load I put through it. If you reload keep in mind they have fluted chambers. There's actually quite a bit of info on them floating around the ARFCOM HK FORUM |
| I love my PTR GI (no rail) for what it is- accurate, nice trigger, (semi-) historical- but the G3, by its nature, is a quirky rifle, and I think one can do better [and a whole lot worse] for a general purpose rifle. I'd take my FAL's over any G3 type, and a SCAR or AR-10 for more serious use. The G3/PTR is front heavy, and the charging handle location and amount of effort to operate it are atrocious (tip: attach the sling hook end or a paracord pull to the cocking handle to provide more leverage), and has a "different" recoil impulse that makes rapid follow-up shots challenging. |
| I have two G3s but I don't know that I would want them to be my "do everything" rifle. Mine run good and are relatively accurate, but are expensive to shoot and somewhat slow to reload. Mine will eat Tula and wolf 150 grain all day long but even those are $10 a box. The are fairly heavy and require special pouches to carry mags, as opposed to ARs. Ok guns and you to do worse as already stated, just not something I would want to do. |

Get an upper in 6.8 or 6.5 for your AR, much more oomph without the weight...or the operating controls designed for E.T.
I've had two PTR-91's, I have no PTR-91's now, there's a reason for that, but to each their own. I only have two AR's both in 6.8spc, don't regret it for a second. |

Yes! That's how they do it in the 3rd world. We need some pics Quoted:
