I've got an Armalite AR10 with Acog and suppressor that I just don't shoot much.  Thinking of selling the AR and the Acog, and picking up a Remington 700 SPS Tactical to host the suppressor, and use that for range and coyote (maybe some pig) duty.  Having plenty of .308 ammo on hand.

Anyway, I'm thinking it will be nice to take the $$$ out of the deal, but just want hear any thoughts on the idea to reason-test it.

I'd stick with the AR-10. When you need "that second shot follow up, NOW" which one is ready to go?

I wouldn't make that trade either. I'd much rather have the AR over the Rem.  If you want a bolt rifle, grab a Savage 10 or the Hog Hunter (can be had for under 400 if you buy them used).

I wouldn't drop the AR10.  My bolt guns collect dust, my G2 Hunter with a 20" barrel is still under 10lbs with a scope and very handy, plus 2 rounds into the target works better than one.

Much more fun if you Armalite is in 16" configuration. I'm not a bolt gun guy myself.

I'd keep the ar-10 also, bolt actions aren't the immediate target for anti's every time something happens You can always save and get a bolt action later(I'd also choose a savage). Plus you can change things on the AR if you don't like certain aspects.

I say do it.  The AR10 is a heavy pig. No need to hang on to crap you don't like/use.  Don't keep things just because you think they might be banned.  Get what you want and send some money to the groups fighting future bans.  That way you won't have to worry about it.

If the AR is sitting in the safe collecting dust I could see moving it but the only way I'd buy a Remington now is used and I'd  want to be able to check it out first.

Thanks for the input everybody

What's the issue with the Remington?  I thought those were GTG?

I've had good luck with Savage guns, maybe I need to check out that Hog Hunter unit?

BTW, the AR10 is a flat-top with16" barrel and fixed stock, green furniture.

Nothing wrong with Remington, Savage rifles are just more bang for you buck in my opinion. a better out of box performer, smoother and nicer looking(to me).  But if your into bolt on crap and accessories Remington has more.

Terrible idea. I went with a Rem 700 SPS first and now KNOW what I really need is a high quality AR10 for precision rifle.

Keep the AR10, put a more capable optic on it.

Remington's QC has been in a downward spiral for years now. I wouldn't own another Remington that wasn't 10+ years old.
