I am working on a semi-automatic parts kit, and come here to "ask the experts".  I've researched semi-kits and armorers manuals (both for myself and learning purposes, and also for the gunsmith that I'll have assemble them...just to be safe).  Previous posts talk about the costs, and I'm aware of the limitations of a semi-auto M60, and am undertaking this project for purposes of display, reenacting (so that non-Class III friendly states will still allow the display), and since I do not have approval from Household 06 to acquire full machine guns, nor do I have a range around that will allow full auto fire...

My biggest questions consist of the following:

1.)  From reading in the past, the weld between the trunion and the receiver is the most critical structural component to watch for.  Is it better to have the receiver set and trunion shipped separately and assembled by the gunsmith??  There are a couple of sets I've seen periodically that are "ready to go except for the parts kit", but if this is so critical, I'm torn between having it done by the seller or relying on a gunsmith that probably has minimal experience with the M60.

2.)  In researching parts, it seems like parts kits going for around $3500 are actually overpriced when comparing to purchasing components.  The top cover is obviously most important/hard to find, but it seems like parts can still be located for the most part at a price significantly below $3500.  Has this been the experience with others?  Is this something that is concerning?

3.)  This will be the first time owning a "MG replica"....so I guess my biggest question is whether or not there are other pieces that I'm missing??  I really do not wish to get several grand into this project and realize I did piss-poor research and cannot finish it.....thus, I go to semi and select fire M60 owners and ask for help in making sure that I'm so far on the right track.

Why not just buy a US Ordnance semi m60?

I agree that with an M60 you are far better off setting one that is already built in semi.   The M60 is a tough build, and certainly not something you want to start with if you have never done semi conversions or kit builds.
