Is it legal to own a 11 1/2" AR upper only  even if you have several complete AR rifles and no lowers without uppers ? Just curious.

No. You need a tax stamp or a pistol lower.

So if I buy a stripped lower that is received as " other" then assemble with pistol buffer assembly and LPK  and then order the short upper I'm in compliance correct ?

Yes. Just having a virgin stripped lower on hand will suffice since it's logged as "other" on the 4473.

I completely agree with everything in the thread but if the ATF is already in your safe snooping around then you're already screwed.

Not really sure what you intend with that statement.

ATF has raided plenty of businesses and homes and found nothing illegal.  If your stance is "go ahead and do whatever you want because you're hosed anyway," that makes no sense.

Correct just ask ARES armor and as an owner of 4 suppressors and a C&R FFL I have dealt with the ATF for a while but they're not worried about you owning a SBR/pistol upper while you don't own a SBR/pistol/stripped lower however if you're in trouble with them anyway and they're at your house and in your safe then they're going to find something illegal, rather it be a SBR/pistol upper or a 922R violation. So don't be afraid of the boogey man, do what you want and don't be stupid about it.
